Extreme Veteran 395 Philly Outsider | Subject: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race There’s a lot of serious talk here (and most of it is very helpful, thank you), but this is also supposed to be fun! |

Champion 10018 , Minnesota | Subject: RE: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race I recently saw a guy finish the Rev3 Oly in Knoxville with a bandaged hand and bloody face. I thought, "Wow, that guy is seriously tough!" Then... I read a race report and learned it was a BTer! (SouthwestMBA). That was even weirder Cool.

Master 4118 Toronto | Subject: RE: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race My first duathlon last year was my first ever multisport event and the course goes through some Mennonite areas. I thought it was super cool that some Mennonite kids were sitting out on fenceposts in their traditional clothes watching all of us cyclists go by their farms. Kinda wondered what they thought ... |

Elite 3395 Raleigh | Subject: RE: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race For a long sprint last year I packed my gear the night before. When I was setting up my ransition area the next morning I found I had brought two left running shoes, one from each of a different pair! I ended up running the 5K in my beat up 3 year old shoes that I drive in. They came untied like three times and offered no cushioning! D'oh! |

Extreme Veteran 552 Wesley Chapel, Florida | Subject: RE: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race Funny in that laugh at yourself kind of way.... First try two weeks ago, and I did struggle in the swim. At one point, a gal on a kayak shouted to me what I *thought* was "Are you OK?" So I shouted in reply "yes!". Except I guess she was really asking something along the lines of "Do you need help?" because when I said "Yes" she took a running leap into the water to try to save me. I found myself appologizing and saying "no, no, I'm OK, really, sorry to make you get all wet!" I didn't accept help from her, though. It may have taken me forever, but I got through the whole 800+ meters with less then a minute's rest on a swim noodle (and that was before the incident in question). |

Champion 7547 Albuquerque, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race Sprint tri in 2006 SouthEast of Indianapolis. I'm riding along about half-way through the ride and a horse in the pasture to my right decides to "race" me and starts galloping inside the fence along with me. He(?) stops at the end of the fence as I ride on by. Since I'm solidly MOP, I'm not sure why he picked me instead of one of the hundred riders ahead of me. |

Master 2167 Livonia, MI | Subject: RE: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race My first (and only) HIM last year: I got bitten by a lamprey eel on the swim. I fell around mile 25 of the bike while fumbling with my water bottles skidding about 15 feet across the road. But darn it I finished. I thought the whole race was one of the most painful experiences of my life until I hit the medic tent to have my dinner plate sized road rashed scrubbed out. Without numbing cream. |

Extreme Veteran 483 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race At a practice tri last year (two weeks before the event), I had to run to the bathroom before the start of the swim. I use the word "bathroom" in the loosest sense of the word. The guy's bathroom is two stools right next to each other with no barrier in between. If you're peeing, you should be fine. Unfortunately, I wasn't peeing. So I sat down and did my business. I felt a LOT better until I realized that there was no toilet paper. And after my business, I definitely NEEDED toilet paper. The only things I had with me were my sandals (on my feet), my tri suit (on my body), and my swim cap (tucked into my suit). So, I took out my swim cap and wiped, then discarded it in a nearby garbage. Later in the morning, I heard a gal walk by the garbage with my swim cap and she said, "It'd be nice if people put their stinky diapers inside plastic bags or something. That stinks!" Yup... sorry... no diaper. Just a stinky swim cap. On the bright side, I had one of my best swims and was at the front of the MOPers coming out of the water. -Joel |

At a tri 2 days ago I got up and stumbled into the bathroom to get my tri suit on. Veteran 259 SoCal | Subject: RE: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race My recent HIM...had to pee in the ocean, couldn't pee, tried peeing on the bike....couldn't pee...was going to pee on the run, but figured it would not be a good idea for the pictures, and urine on your leg while running may be a tad uncomfortable. So I decided to pee in the portal, started to pee for probably 45 secs...it stopped...and then it went again for a bout 30 secs..it stopped, AND THEN I went AGAIN for another 15 secs. Longest pee ever, best pee ever...good times.. |

Master 1367 Dirt Road | Subject: RE: Share an odd/interesting/weird story from your race When I was 11 competed in several road races state wide which produced 2 or 3 rivals in my age group. There was one guy who beat me more than I did him in the shorter distances - 2 to 4 miles. I went to Boston with my dad to run the marathon and see the guy in the hotel lobby. So come race day I am very nervous and of coarse looking around for my rival. The gun goes off and the whole time I am looking for the guy. I go up heart brake hill and I am almost crying when I finally see my rival. He is laying on the hoses aboard the pick up fire truck. I think I finished with a smile. |
