Sunny
Total Time = 4h 34m 57s
Overall Rank = 8/794
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

woke up at 4:30, ate a muffin and a Banana (missed my coffee)
Event warmup:

ran around the area 1-2 miles, started to warm - up the swim but ended up cutting my finger on a zebra mussel. (Did not stop bleeding )
Swim
  • 24m 31s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim, Could have pushed it more but was weary of the bike/run to come. Felt comfortable in the water, sun was an issue on the way back in.
What would you do differently?:

Need more warm-up. It was really shallow to begin but once I got out there I was good.
Transition 1
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Ok transition, I could go faster but I was trying to stay in control.
What would you do differently?:

practice faster transitions
Bike
  • 2h 36m 51s
  • 56 miles
  • 21.42 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a lot of trouble on the bike. Betwee mile 20 - 48 my groin mussle was killing me. There was times that I was thinking about stopping. Kept trying to stretch it out. Was way out of my rythme during a large part of this bike. I did ot feel good on the bike. Very upset about my biking..
What would you do differently?:

Do not know. I might have to do some soul serching on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Once again a little slow on transitions but nothing to get too upset about.
What would you do differently?:

pick it up a little
Run
  • 1h 30m 34s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Talked myself back into the race. First 3 miles I felt great and was planning out the rest of the race. Positive thinking the whole time no matter what. I really worked on positivity throughout the whole run. THe hills were tough but I pushed through the best I could. Really felt the last 3 miles but realized that it is part of the race. Back to Form was what I kept saying the last 3 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Do not know. I will have to think about it.
Post race
Warm down:

ice bath after the race was the best thing ever. Then a massage that let me know that I was not hydrated enough.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

hydration was a huge factor and the mussle issue on the bike.

Event comments:

This is one of the if not the best race I had the pleasure to attend. It was run perfectly, there was a lot to do, the course was challenging but not impossible, overall it had everything. My family and I had a blast from Thursday-Monday. I could have stayed at the park all day on Sat and sunday if my kids did not have to take naps. Did I mention how great this race was...

Congrats on a great race. I cut my finger on a Mussle as well and the darn thing bled for 5 hours. I agree, it is a great race, have gone back for 3 years and convinced three friends to do it this year as well and they all loved it.

That was a heck of a performance!  Podium spot, yes?

Amazing, I also cut my finger on a mussel.  I guess there's 3 of us at least.

Thanks, great to meet other bters.  I guess by getting cut at the musselman by a mussel is kinda like a badge you get when doing it.  THe name of the race actually fits..
