Yep, it's time!

Who is in?

Our oldest will be rocking the 8 and under division.  She is looking to move up from BOP to MOP due to better training and a faster bike.  She is convinced that the missing piece is a disc wheel....

Its so on! Bring on the disc wheel Brown Dogs!

Ellie Slayer is in 7-8 trying to sneak up to top 5 from a 7th oa finish in 5-6 last year. Tougher competition this year though.

Amy Slayer is in 9-10 and she needs to clean the slate after being DQ'd as a top contender last year. Her dumb Daddy was screaming so loud at her she skipped off one of the bike loops.

At 4, Jake Slayer isn't old enough this year to compete, but with his floaties he can swim as fast as any 5 year old. I still have to work on his nutrition plan. He's not as fond of Powerbar Ironman Perfrom as he is Muscle Milk, which goes off in the heat really quick.

btw:

Iron Kids will adopt the USAT age-up rule. According to USA Triathlon Competitive Rules, Article III, Section 3.2(a):
All age group athletes must participate and compete in the age division corresponding to the athlete's age on December 31 of the year of the event

Unfortunately, we did not get our pro contracts signed in time for the race.  My girls were holding out for a separate tent, specific post race food and Smart water at each feed zone with the cap opened to exactly half twisted off (nothing more and nothing less).    I told them to go for the registration fees, but they indicated that was my problem not theirs.

We are rocking the youth tri world starting next year.

Captin-  You need t lock down the talent early if you expect to succeed at the ironkids distance.

Our training has been hampered by school starting up.  We basically have gone with a full 4 week taper, and I'm worried it's a bit much.

She has a new bike too, so there will be no suped up barbie bike dominating the dojo like last year.  I have a feeling that this year it will be all about having the right nutrition setup on the bike.  She has discussed infinit, protein, and a special snack for when she is in the valley of darkness in the later portions of the bike.

My daughter is racing in the 6 year old division and she wanted to make her bike faster, so I changed out the bar end tassles on the pink GT "Lola" to carbon fiber bar end tassles. I am working under the assumption that anything made of carbon fiber makes the bike faster. Now granted, the solid steel (and I mean SOLID steel, that thing feels like it weighs a ton) frame bike that I think weights more than my road bike and mountain bike combined, may begate the advantage of the upgraded tassles, but we'll just have to wait and see how things shake out on race day.

Now I did have a long talk with her about her race day strategy (i.e. pacing, nutrition, bi lateral breathing all the important issues to a 6 year old) and I think that she is really embracing the triathon spirit.....after the talk I asked if she had any questions and her response was "Do I get a t-shirt and a medal for this?" I said yes and she cheered (ha-ha-ha)

See you guys at the race briefing on Saturday.

I expect that if I can get myself out of bed in time and can still use my legs after completing Tugaloo the day before, I will be down to watch again this year.

It was super fun last year, especially watching mr brown dog run the whole bike and run course next to his little brown pup, shouting encouragement.

Fair warning though - last year they were running pretty far behind on start times. They had a rule that the next group doesn't start the swim until the last group is off the bike course. And the groups were really big, seemed like hundreds of kids. So unless they have figured out how to be more efficient, I'd expect them to be running late this year too.

Darn it Doug....I didn't want to have to do this, but I guess the aero bars and aero helmet are coming out for the Bean on Sunday.

I wonder if Zipp 808's will fit on a Giant kids bike?

It's not looking good over here at Team Brown_Dog.  Currently we have a fever of 102 and we might have to pull out of our "A" race.

btw, she is crushed.  A lot of crying.

The disc wheel cover is made of thick card board I found at the art supply store.  It's pretty cool looking from about 10 yds.  Inside of that it gets sketchy.

Rats! We wanted the steep competition the brown-pups had to offer. Ice her down, give her some fever reducers, and get her some good rest. There's still some hope!
