Who's doing it? I missed it last year b/c of my Pittsburgh Steelers training camp...hoping I can do it this year. I think last year it actually might have been cancelled with that snow storm?

Its a fabulously fun race with the kilts and bagpiper...plus celebrates my favorite day of the year, when the days start to get longer!

They didn't officially cancel last year but only had a hand full of runners due to a snow storm.
I believe that was the day of the first blizzard run last year.

I'm in for this year. Very fun race.

sweet! Me too. I love this race. I've done it at least 3 times...hopefully the steelers camp won't be the same weekend. Bring on the snow!

You're not running. It could be your coming out race.Though it's probably only 8 weeks post Iron Baby.

Yeah... and probably only 2-4 weeks after my OB gives me the go ahead to start running again... and I haven't ran in a while.

Hoping for blizzard. I realized to late last year that I could have taken the light rail and gotten within a half mile of the race start.

I does usually sell out eventually. Here is an update email I got this week:

Celtic Solstice Update
Posted by: "Jim Adams" [email protected] jamesguyadams
Date: Thu Oct 21, 2010 3:18 pm ((PDT))

Registration for the Celtic Solstice is now open at:

http://www.active.com/running/baltimore-md/celtic-solstice-2010

We are about halfway full as of this writing.  Once the shirts are mostly
allocated we will open up a limited non-shirt category.  Since the race is
capped, we felt we had to get the premium category filled first, since they cost
us a lot of money to embroider and we didn't want to get stuck with them because
the non-shirt category took all the race slots early.

There is no paper entry available this year because of inventory control issues
in previous years caused by people sending in paper registrations after their
category had closed.  While 99% of runners are great people and very
understanding, when you have 2500 people entered, the 25 hard cases who give you
a tough time seem to be the only ones you remember.

Hope to see you there!

Do you bike outside in the winter? If yes, then you probably already have everything you need to run in the cold. All of my apparel does double duty for biking and running.

In general, I find that what I would wear for a given biking temperature is appropriate for running temp + 10 degrees: what I would wear for a 50 degree run is what I would wear for a 40 degree bike ride.

If you don't bike outside in the cold, either, then think about picking up some wicking base layers, hats, and gloves. Then, as the temperatures drop, do your running outside and start experimenting with the layers to figure out what works for you at various temperatures.

Around here you never know that a December day will bring; it could be 20 degrees or it could be 50 degrees. Start preparing now.

See you there.

I'm the opposite - I need more clothes for a bike than a run at the same temp (especially on the extremities) due to the higher winds and relatively lower exertion.  I've also learned that for both, a wind proof layer, even if paper thin, can do more to keep you warm than 3 thick layers (and if it's zippered is very good to regulate temp if you overheat).  Also, baggy windpants or the like suck to run in, they weigh you down.  Spandex pants are both stylish and functional.  My legs take a lot to get cold compared to the rest of my body, and I'll only wear pants when it's really cold and probably never in a race.  Knee warmers work for me in both biking and running.  I will wear compression briefs under my shorts (I don't normally) to help take some of the sting away from the boys (fleece lined tri shorts aren't bad either).

If your race intensity will be higher than training, plan to wear less, especially in your core (I like arm warmers for this, vests aren't useful, IMHO).  If training will incorperate race efforts of a significant duration, obviously use them to try out an outfit, if not, I'd guess and err lighter than heavier (I'd rather run a little cool than overheat - I'll run faster that way).

I've gotten a lot of cold weather gear from TJ Max, Target and just recently a couple things on bonktown.com and it's been very cheap and help up nicely.

Yes! I stated that backward. 50 degree run ~ 40 ride, etc

I found for this race it's important to have something extra to put on after the race. That's when the cold really affects me. There isn't parking real close so you can't just run over to your car and change after the race.

Do they usually have a bag drop at the finish?
