I am strongly considering the HIM. There are some really great RR on the "races" link tab.
Looks like a good time.

I did this one last year. It is flat with cool temps. Last year was actually fairly warm by the end of the race - mid 70's. But, this time of year can be pretty cold too. I like cool temps, so it appeals to me. It is a good destination race if you want to bring the family and it is a good first marathon for those looking for a flat course. Not crowded either. About 2,000 runners for the full which spreads out by mile 6 or 8.

I've done it twice and am registered for next years event.  I do like the race overall, it's really flat with the highest elevation climb being a bridge over the inlet.  Decent crowd support, and honestly the best post race party around.  Where else can you get 4 free beers after running 26.2 miles?  And these are full-on 16oz draft beers not little sample cups.

The only thing I'd say though, is that it can be fairly windy, given the location and time of the year.

I've done the half many times.  Not sure if I'm doing it again this year.  It's annoying that all the hotels have a two night minimum now.

Did the half last year, wife is doing full this year.

It's a flat fast course, good vibe, free beer & stew after the race.

I'm doing this as my first mary and a warm up for IMFL.  This distance scares me a bit but hope to just finish with no injury so I can get a good base for IM training.

I think I'm going to give Kinetic another shot this year.  It beat me last year, and I want a rematch (hopefully with no falling trees this year).  It seems to take me 3-4 attempts at each new distance to dial in training, race strategy, and nutrition.  Finally got the 1/2 Mary down... now I will work on HIM and maybe Mary in 2011.  I have no idea how one can get the training time in for the IM though.  My max seems to be about 10 hrs / week that I can sustain.  Anyway, I'm inspired by your reach!

Just my 2 cents...

A marathon beats you up. At first I was going to say that it could compromise your IM training, but looks like even with a 30 week IM Plan, you should recover in time to start training. Just make sure you take it easy during your recovery!!! Err on the side of caution. You don't want to start IM Training with some little injuries. In fact, take the marathon easy too, which is what a first marathon should be anyway.

But you know that.

thanks for the info.  I am VERY slow so taking it easy on the marathon is what I planned to do. Plus I also know how to take it easy with recorvery. Probable to muchSurprised.  All the info is good!!

I did the full last March and it was a terrific race. Well organized and plenty of support. The weather last year caught a bunch of people off guard, it was in the 70s!!! I overheated somewhere around mile 19, so be prepared for some fickle temps.

A great diagnostic for an IM.

I'd registered for the full last year, but dropped down to the half due to some IT Band issues.

I'm still toying with the thought of running the full this year, but I'm probably going to stay with the half for one more year.

Signed up for the full a couple months ago, I am originally from VB so I have always wanted to do this race.  The race company that puts this on is top notch, did the Wicked 10k in October and was really impressed..excited to see what they do for Shamrock!

I'm planning to run the half this year! I tried to do the Rock N Roll Half there last summer, but ended up with a stress fracture two weeks before the race. Hopefully I'll have a better outcome this spring!

I plan to run this too.  Just ran a 10 mile training run today and felt pretty good.  I'm seeing some really good progress.  This will be my first!

edit: planning to run the full.
