Aero helmet deal on Bonktown for the next 27 minutes or so:

UVEX AERO TIME TRIAL HELMET, regularly $189.99 now $69.99. Go to www.bonktown.com

I'm curious.  How many of you wear the aero helmets?  (I don't

I don't own one but have pondered the idea.

I just got one for Christmas.  Haven't worn it yet other than to try it on.  I am sure it will take tons of time off my bike split Wink

Let us know!! Ha!

Don't have one here. I'm sure Dave would love to buy me one. At the IM he kept wondering why all these peeps had alien helmets but I didn't. Really, it came up over and over again -- he wouldn't let it go, ha!

Get one, it should make you go faster.  And come on we all look pretty dorky walking around wearing tight spandex, the aero helmet just completes the look.

Doesn't it get hot?  I kind of like the ventilation my current one has.

I believe some pro's don't wear them at Knoa but others do.

I wear mine in 90 - 100 degree temps with high humidity and sweat just as much as I do with my road helmet on.  Some of them do have small vents also so it's not completely covered.

I have two now and I sold my first one to another member of the MG. I have not found them to be too hot. They have good ventilation nowadays. I have not tried my newest one as I just got it this off season and it was  given to me for rejoining my triathlon club. It is a Lazer.

I'm back!  LOVED Vegas!  Ate so much amazing food - yummy.  rode the roller coaster, fun!  Saw a great show - La Reve - THOSE are some athletes!  Did get a run in this morning, but WAY too many people were out there already!  And, who'd a thunk it....Vegas is at SOME sort of altitude.  I swear, I could feel it!!

My new favorite restaurant.....Aureole.  Wow, just wow.

My new favorite Monday workout.....mojitos at the pool, no swimming involved.  Cool

But, jeez, DJ - what's with the WIND?!?!?

Our planes kept all of their metal on, no problems!  Children, that wasn't so good.  We've been spoiled, and need to crack down on our teens....damn.

Back to reality!

Ice baths.....ALWAYS after a 90+ minute run.  In the winter, I stand in the unheated pool (with a sweatshirt on!).  Summer,  14 pounds of ice in the bathtub...then me with a sweatshirt on. 12-15 minutes.  Lifesaver!!!

Men shaving - love it.  Come up with any reason necessary, I do like it.......must be the swim background.  Took my former baseball player-hubby a while to come around, and it's more of a race season call.....but it's a good look!

yeah, i see it on the helmets and read about that, i'm just having a hard time getting my mind around it.   basically i'm trying to figure every way to keep my temps down for that run.  probably over thinking it.

Umm last time I checked you are not supposed to wear your aero helmet on the run!  Tongue out  I'm sure a cap or visor would provide better ventilation.

But, jeez, DJ - what's with the WIND?!?!?

LOL!! It was perfectly fine the week before!  April - May are the windiest days. I know, what a PIA at times eh?   Luckily, Saturday morning wasn't THAT bad...but it did pick up in the afternoon as well as the heat.  Nearly freaked out when I used my 53mm Wheelset with side winds. (Hence why, I'm kind of *thinking* about getting another nice wheelset for windy conditions and VERY hilly conditions...don't get mad at me Fatty!!)

Sunday - BRUTAL! I went to a Walk a Thon for Humane Society with my dog, and THAT was terrible...but it's typical of Vegas though!

Glad you enjoyed your weekend!!! :-)

TRIATHLON RACES question...

I'm looking into out of State tris. Kokopelli is one of them (in September) in St. George, Utah.

Utah Summer Games Triathlon is another.  However, this one is REALLY small (limit to 500, and looking at the results, it looks more like 250 or less). Majority of them are Utah residents, very few are from out of state. Which I can tell why, because if you are in the top 3 of your AG, and out of state, you don't get a "prize". Only Utah residents can "win".

I'm not looking to be an AG'er as I've stated many times, so it doesn't really matter to me...just having fun does (and medals doesn't hurt either).   It's a $60 triathlon.

Should I do it? or is it not worth my time to do small-town triathlons? I picked this one because it's the closest one, and it gives me something to "do" between May and September.

Or is it "Triathlon is a triathlon: GO for it!"

I'm seriously considering of doing a HIM next year, but we'll see how my schedule work out. This year won't because I'm graduating, and I have a feeling that I'll be slacking off workouts...which I've done a few times, okay more than a few times due to overwhelming schoolwork.

I'd say it's worth your time if it's fun and something you want to do.  The distance doesn't matter.  Tony and I have done a small town tri every year since it started.  This will be our 5th year.  It can be alot of fun to race with a small group.

yes.  and a few other manufactures.  not sure what i think.  the technology seems to vary greatly by environment with the less humid regions being much more applicable to wearing the gear as long as you're able to keep it damp, clearly not ideal for training unless you like carrying a bunch of extra water.  desoto make a long sleeve shirt in the fabric with three pockets down the spine which seems good for ice, IF ice is available at a consistent duration on the run.  but again,  the humidity seems to discount any cooling effect the fabric may provide.  on the plus side there is uv protection, but at what cost, i dunno.

bottom line,  i have some doubts about the gear, especially the black fabric,  that makes no sense to me.

i know some pretty petite chicks that wear the desoto cool wings.

good luck racing peeps!   nada here.

ows.  i think one of the biggest mistakes people make, especially newer folks, is they just jump on in without giving starting position, course or conditions much thought.   especially in saltwater races where currents are more apt to be a factor.  ironman isn't going to be wetsuit legal so thats a non-issue, but yeah, sleeves.  my old coach was a D1 swimmer at florida and swears by sleeveless,  talk's all about the feel of the water.  i think there's something to hat,  but i still look at all the pro's and they ain't wearing sleeveless suits.

I'm doing the the 2nd race in my April 5k series.  More pain for 23 or so min.  Tony is running as well so it's date night for the D'Alessios.  Woo Hoo!  Grab a drink and check out a photo exhibit at the finish line for a nice Friday evening out on the town in running tights.  LOL

What to say about swimming except I suck at it STILL!  I go sleeveless even in butt a&s cold water b/c sleeves bug the crap out of me.  John is absolutely right (did I just type that) about it being important to know the course and the water esp. in moving bodies of water.  I learned that the hard way last fall in my Sept HIM.  I swam in an endless pool for 20 min. trying to get out of a current b/c I started on the wrong side of the start line.

Also try to make those practice swims if they are offered the day before.  It's good to know the type of water you are facing race morning.

Suzy I know you are leery of food trucks and only remember the old "roach coach" version but these are the temptations I must resist at work.  One of my favs is 3 blocks away for lunch today.  And yes this roll tastes as good as it looks.
