I've had my crappy mattress for more than 10 years - it is terrible. Plus this guy I'm seeing is a chiropractor - he is extremely worried about my back and this stupid mattress of mine. He's convinced me it's time to shop for a new one.

I'm pretty interested in the Tempur-Pedic types based on reputation alone, but wanted to see what ya'll recommend or have had good luck with. I'm tempted to just buy one off their web site without even laying on one since they have a 90-day tryout period.

They are a little pricey, but not nearly as bad as I thought they'd be.

What about Sleep Numbers? Does anyone have one of those?

Other quality options? I'm willing to spend around $1500 or so (full/double size).

My wife and I have a tempur-pedic.  I hate it.  HATEHATEHATEHATE it!!!!!  I might as well have burned the $2200 I spent on that bed.  I would have gotten more enjoyment out of watching the flames than I have out of that kitchen sponge of a bed.

(In the nature of full and honest disclosure, my wife Loves that bed as much as I hate it)

No flip = no deal. They sell you that it doean't need to be flipped or rotated. Not true. There's a growing mountain between my wife and I with trenches forming on either side.

I liked our old Sealy which was about grade 4 or 5 in pricing. The box spring sucked though; wound up making noises where the wood rubbed together.

I have a Tempur-Pedic and I love it.  We originally had the "Cloud" model, but it was way too hard for my wife.  We now have their pillow-top model which is pricier, but much better.  I've only had it for about 5 months, but it is a keeper so far.  And, we've had them all--waterbed, sleep number, pocketed coils, pillow-top, non-pillow top.  Also had a knock-off memory foam---it got very hard eventually.

When we were bed shopping we learned that the Tempupedic can be very hot as it retains heat, which is why it was a big NO for me.  Even lying on it for 5 minutes I could feel the heat being reflected back.

My inlaws have a sleep number bed and love it.  Ive slept on one a few times when I stayed at a Raddison Hotel and was very happy and slept well.  Which is always a challenge when travelling

We ended up getting a Sealy w/ a pillow top and have been very happy with it.

Some companies, like 1-800-MATTRES (you leave off the last S for savings) will let you do an in home test as well

I've got a Tempur-pedic.  X2 on the heat issue.

I find it very comfortable and supportive, but due to its mass density, it has a high specific heat.  so, it's cold when you get in it, and takes a while to warm it up, then- it gets all hot and stays hot.  It just doesn't breathe all that well.

We put a down topper over it, and that has solved most of that issue.

I have the Costco generic memory foam and love it.

I used to live in the Mojave Desert and was never bothered by the heat.

I had a Simmons Back Care mattress.  great b/c  i'm a side and back sleeper and it allowed for a straight spine position.  Not sure they still make it or if they have a replacement style.

upon moving in with my partner, we have a Serta Perfect Sleeper Crestdale- it is good, but i don't love it as much as the previous one. I do however, love HIM more than the mattress.

Do Not, under any circumstances, buy the type of awful mattress at my in-laws-to-be.  I don't know what it is but i usually end up sleeping on the floor instead.

We tried out a Tempur-pedic at our Back To Bed mattress store.  X1000 on the heat issue.  Way too hot for me.  Now granted, I'm a 45-year old female going through perimenopause...so night sweats are a common occurrence in my life...so may not be the case for you.  We opted for a Simmons Beautyrest Anniversary Beaumont Plush Super Pillow Top (wow that's a mouthful) mattress.  Very happy with it.

I don't remember the brand name, one of the more popular ones that begins with an "S" - but we had a pillow top mattress one.

The thing lasted 10 years and we finally got rid of it b/c we were moving and some other unrelated reasons.  That pillow-top mattress was pretty expensive (well, it would have been had we actually paid full price - that's a totally different story), but we paid $200 for a Queen size.

That thing was like sleeping on clouds.  It was a great mixture of softness and firmness.  I like a firm mattress and my wife likes the soft mattress.  The pillowtop was soft, but then then regular mattress was firm.

The only bad part was that once asleep, it was VERY tough to get up in the morning when you were enveloped in that bed...

Pocketed coils.  Nothing else I've had compares.

x2.  End of story.

Sleep number beds are torture devices disguised as beds.

My in-laws have a sleep number. Have house-sat for them a few times and I flippin hate that thing! I would rather sleep on the floor.

I'm not sure what brand/model ours is but my wife and I agree it is the best thing we have ever slept on. It is a regular mattress but has the tempur pedic type foam on the top. I'll check it out when I get home and post the brand and model.

We have the Trump Bryant Park by Serta. We have had it for a couple months and love it. It has memory foam in the pillow top which makes it soft enough for me but has the firm-ness of the mattress to hold up for hubby that needs it for his back.

We had an OLD mattress that was only about 6 years old that was quite dented on both sides (with the mound in the middle). Hubby was having back/hip problems and didn't want to go to the doctor. Needless to say all the pain is gone away since we got the new mattresses.

The bed is 95% latex so it stays cooler (for hubby who is always hot) and as they told me at the store that bed bugs can't stay in latex. That is nice to know (HA)

I sleep on a California King Sleep Number. Was just OK until my wife put on a 2" foam topper and now I'm sleeping the best I ever have. At $2400.00 it wasn't worth it in my opinion.
