Swim
Comments: the swim on my garmin came to 600 yrds. but it was advertised at 500 so i'll put 500 here. there were only 2 waves, elites and AGers and then clydesdales and first timers and relay teams. started out strong, but 200 yrds out there were still alot of people around me, with swim being short and all the agers starting i guess i should have expected this. so i kept on truckin. it was about 300 yrds to the bouy then turn back to transition, drafting was very hard and i lost the legs because someone tried to literally drown me. at the bouy i quickly went by and just pushed the pace. when i came out of the water i started running fast to the transition. by the time i hit the transition wetsuit was almost off. What would you do differently?: not much here did ok for this swim, swimming in wetsuit is a cake walk. Transition 1
Comments: this was a tad slower, had a hard time putting the helmet strap on but finally just forced it... What would you do differently?: need to practice with the new helmet a tad, love the tt2 though. much nicer then the giro adv2 Bike
Comments: bike was setup pretty aero H3 front, disc cover + pt rear, helmet specialized tt2. tires were zipp tangente 700x21 with race tubes. i really like this setup, everything felt good. i told myself that i need to try riding 100% of FTP. results: Speed (mph): 23.9 Power (watts): 253 (1.01) Cadence (rpm):86 xPower (watts): 253 Relative Intensity: 1.021 BikeScoreā¢: 46 Daniels Points: 48 Daniels EqP (watts): 253 when i started i felt gassed, but there were 2 guys next to me, so i tried to keep them close by but soon they picked up the pace these were actually the first and second place elite finishers. the first guy had a crazy cadence. i managed to keep them in my sights for the first 5 miles but then lost them. i finally passed one guy at mile 6 who just completely burned out, the other guys maintained a strong pace and i lost them but saw them at the turn around. mile 7 i had heather gollnick in my view, wanted to catcher badly (a pro who organized the club med venue and a 5 time ironman champ) but she kept hammering, closest i got to her was about 10 bike lengths. What would you do differently?: bike went well, need to do more 20 min @ ftp to tell the body this isn't fun and games. my legs were burning up. but quite happy, still close to the 24 mph marker but can't seem to crack it. Transition 2
Comments: finally got to transition at the same time as heather. tossed everything on the ground and put on the shoes, and btw the zoot kane were fantastic, they really are a triathlon running shoe. it was very pleasant running in them. back to the report as i was running out heather was just pulling out, even the announcer said heather was the first female in the transition with and me being in pursuit of course he slaughtered my name. What would you do differently?: this transition went well. Run
Comments: what can i say run is my achilles heel...as i ran out i was about 50 yrds in front of heather but she quickly caught up, i said to myself i will try to just run with behind, great pace booty. but she kept such a strong pace, i would have burned out. but i tried to not look at the watch just run hard. i was breathing pretty hard, but managed to keep solid pace for the entire race. finally at around 2.5 miles there was a massive crowd and since the run is in front of the restaurant everyone is cheering saw my fam and went on by like a rocket. Lap Time Distance Pace/Speed 1 06m 40s 1.00 miles 06m 40s /mile 2 06m 45s 1.00 miles 06m 45s /mile 3 06m 44s 1.00 miles 06m 44s /mile 4 01m 53s 0.05 miles 41m 49s /mile What would you do differently?: keep on runnin...keep on runnin... need to drink more that is for sure i felt dehydrated at the end. Post race
Warm down: drank some OJ and went straight to breakfast dressed in wet triathlon attire. What limited your ability to perform faster: nothin good race. Event comments: very good race and organized well. will go back to club med for another race later this year. only issue i would say is water stations, today with temp just going up it wasn't a big deal but as it gets warmer it will be more important. first race i actually traveled to. it was interesting i have been to several club meds, but a race there, i thought this could be interesting. on top of everything else i was there with my family there were 7 of us, so it was more chaotic then a normal race would be.
i arrived on friday afternoon, saturday morning i rode about 1 hr, rode the course so i had a good idea of what to expect.
i have to say its quite nice to get up and walk to transition, i pretty much got to the transition 10 min before it was being closed, all spots were numbered so i didn't care too much about being there early.
i didn't have much of a pre-race warmup, had to take care of things for work so i didn't get to bed till very late, around 12:30, got to the race my mom and my cousin was there already waiting on me. :)
got into the water swam about 100 yrds and came out and chatted. i was so relaxed eventhough i had so little rest the previous 2 night and had so much alcohol from mohito's to beer to wine...
