Total Time = 2h 29m 47s
Overall Rank = 115/374
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 16/25
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:15. Had sbux doubleshot, a bowl of melons, and a clif bar.

Drove to race site. Got in right as transition opened. Racked bike and setup my area.

Drank water.
Event warmup:

15' easy run + a couple strides
15' easy bike + a couple sprints

Couldn't get in the water, and they delayed the start due to fog on the lake so bad we couldn't see the buoys. After that cleared got in about 10' of swimming warmup.
Swim
  • 25m 4s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 40s / 100 meters
Comments:

No wetsuits, so I tucked my top into my shorts and swam in that. Made the swim a little slower. Also, I think the course was longer than 1500. This was the regional championships, and only 3 swimmers broke 20:00!
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster. :)
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Slight uphill out of T1, so I was little jumbled getting on the bike, and getting feet on the shoes. They kept flipping over.

Got shafted on bike transition position. It wasn't equal distance run through T1 depending on where you racked your bike. They changed the direction though T1 *after* everyone had racked all of their bikes. It was U shaped, and you come in the bottom of the U. I was half way up one arm, and had to run all the way back to the swim-in, and then down the other arm to get out, while others only had to run 1/2 way up "their" arm.
What would you do differently?:

Rack in a different position so I don't screw myself out of a few extra seconds.
Bike
  • 1h 12m 11s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 20.61 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Push harder from the start. Gotta trust myself to sustain a harder effort and not detonate. I held off a little at the start, but pushed hard the last 2/3rds. Should have hammered the whole way.
Transition 2
  • 01m 24s
Comments:

Felt slow, but considering I had to put on socks, this was pretty fast.
Run
  • 49m 23s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Cracked 8min/mile at last! ( barely, but I did it )
What would you do differently?:

Run faster. I kicked at mile 5, and I didn't hurt as badly as I thought, so I could have pushed the whole run faster. Again, need to trust my fitness to carry me through. I need to make it hurt more than I did.

I still improved my run slightly over Bigfoot, but not as much as I'd have thought.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank water, got my endurox. Stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not pushing myself up a few more bpm on the bike and the run. For an oly, I need to take it right to the edge of blowing up, and I'm not doing that. Keeping too much in reserve.

Event comments:

Fog in the AM delayed the start by about 45 min. That threw off the timing of my warmup, but that's nothing that anyone can control.

Great race, smallish, and the course is fast. Hope to come back and tear it up someday. Might not be next year as it's too close to IMWI.

Chris, phenomenal race!  You didn't even get a drafting penalty.  Awesome.  I'm particulary impressed with your run split.  Now, your swim and bike were fantastic, but the run shows that you were well prepared and in great shape to be able to finish with such a great split.

Chris - outstanding!!!  The RR shows a few little things to improve, but in general, looks like you planned, trained, executed, and delivered results.  Most of us oly dream of delivering a solid race like that.  Congrats on the solid race.

WAY TO GO CHRIS!  You know you did great when you felt like you had more in you at the end (particularly when you PR'd the run with a sub-8 avg time!).  Great job.
