Overall Rank = 92/564
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 13/33
Pre-race routine:

Morning started off rough as my buddy who came to watch went to the wrong apartment complex and then I forgot to grab my liquids and had to turn back to get them. Speeding up I95 at 80mph and listening to Jay-Z to get to transition on time definitely got me ready to race!!
Event warmup:

This was my first race with a wetsuit. All of my past races have been too warm to wear one and boy does it make a HUGE difference. I got in the water to test it out for the first time (I know.. I know.. don't wear or do anything for the first time in a race!) and I was practically floating!!! Awesome! Despite only putting it on for the first time the night before and not having any idea how to get the darn thing off once I got to T1, my swim confidence skyrocketed (swimming if by far my weakest discipline).
Swim
  • 15m 9s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

Did I mention my wetsuit is awesome!! My overall swim performance was the best it's been, largely due to the wetsuit. My body position was great and I was slipping through the water. This was also my first race where I finally drafted properly. I found a guy slightly faster than me and I stayed on his left hip for most of the swim. He sighted well, so I did little sighting. I just made sure I was staying on his left hip the entire swim.
What would you do differently?:

nada.
Transition 1
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

um. swim was done and now I had to figure out how to get this wetsuit off!! It took me a second to find the drawstring, but that was the easy part. I got to my bike and started to step on my suit like they tell you over the internet (& youtube)... but I forgot the fact that I had the timing chip on my left ankle!! Darn you timing chip.. I spent a good 30 sec hopping around on my left foot trying to get out of my suit!
What would you do differently?:

practice taking off my wetsuit (w/ timing chip).
Bike
  • 34m 11s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 21.94 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike was around what I expected. I didn't attacked the hills as much as I wanted to and on the second lap, my gears got stuck on one of the hills, which killed my momentum.
What would you do differently?:

I was shooting for sub 33min. Need to practice hills more!
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Decided to wear socks on the run, so killed my time a bit.
What would you do differently?:

practice running without socks more to I can take them out the equation in T2
Run
  • 22m 2s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

5km PR!!! 30 sec better than my last (open) 5km race. My legs felt great going into the run and honestly, I was surprised with my split. A fellow age grouper was on my heels for the last mile, which definitely forced me to keep the pedal to the metal.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

water, banana, & bagel.

Event comments:

Well run event by Mossman Tri Club. Definitely a great race to bring the family. Less than 600 racers to it didn't have the huge race feel to it.

Good job out there!! And as far as the timing chip, I usually put my wetsuit on over it which makes it easier to take off. See you in a few weeks at NYC Tri!....Oh and Jay-Z on I95 at 80mph is definitely the way to get prepped for a race
