Swim
Comments: The swim was a wave start and I was in the second wave. We went off at 4 minute intervals. We swam out around a bouy down the beach and them after rounding the second buoy swam into shore. No prolems here, The practice swim was harder. I swam the 1/4 mile in 08:34, which was 61/239 Overall, and 5/11 in my age group. I did not push it all out as I was worried about the run later. I really should push it to see what I can do and to see how that affects my bike/run. Thought of all the MG women that talk about peeing as I had to pee so bad I did it on the beach while waiting for the count-down. Could not wait any longer! What would you do differently?: Push my pace sooner. Transition 1
Comments: The transition took 1 minute and went well. (65/239 OA, 5/11 AG) What would you do differently?: Not much. Bike
Comments: The bike was flat as can be. A 5 mile out and 5 mile return. Got passed and passed others in equal amounts. Saw some of the most blatant cheating ever! Two guys drafted off each other taking turns at the front. They passed me at mile 6 and kept it up to transition. I did not see their numbers on the penalty list. I heard about this in IM Florida, but in a sprint? What would you do differently?: Not much. Transition 2
Comments: Second transition was longer as I wanted to down some electrolyte drink. Heed orange sucks! (167/239 AG, and 10/11 AG) I guess most people wnet faster as they went barefoot. What would you do differently?: Not wear shoes and try running barefoot. Run
Comments: We had to run down wooden steps across loose sand and then up the beach 1.5 miles. I took it easy, and was REALLY surprised to find myself passing people for the first mile! However (there is ALWAYS a however in my runs) high tide had arrived at this point. There was no way to run on the hard sand and not get wet. My shoes got soaked! Lots of people were running barefoot and others carried their shoes. Having no experience with this I just kept going. It sucked! So hard to keep any kind of pace. Before the finish shoot we had about a 1/8-1/4 mile through the parking lot and that is why I had gone out with my shoes. I suppose I could have run barefoot and saved time in transition and maybe on the run too. But having never run barefoot I did not want to try it. At least I ran in my oldest running shoes which were due to be retired. What would you do differently?: Run barefoot. Post race
Warm down: Fruit and a cookie. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of experience with running in sand. Event comments: Multirace runs a good show and has a neat set up. Results are posted immediately on computer monitors on the side of their trailer and you can get a "receipt" with all your times (no rankings) right away. Shirts were top notch and every finisher got dog tags. I will post pictures of these things next week. I thought it was lame that I had to work to get my rankings, but then they sent me an email with all that data. This was within 2 hours of the event closing. So I had a blast, learned a lot and did two things I had never done before. Cool! Last updated: 2011-07-31 12:00 AM

I got up at 4:45AM, ate my normal breakfast, put my stuff, that I had packed the night before, into the truck. Drank a diet Pepsi on the way. I was there by 5:25AM and had a very close parking spot. It was completely dark out at this time.
Got body marked and got my timing chip. Their chips come pre-attached to really strong straps (nice.) Two people in my rack had beaten me there so I had the third spot. The woman next to me was doing her first tri and kept knocking my stuff over. Grrr!
After set up I had nothing to do. Normally I know people but being 600+ miles from home made that unlikely. Was a little isolating. Did run into a guy from Cary, NC wearing a White Lake Triathlon shirt, and talked to him for a while.
Met the Race Director, whom I had "talked to" on SlowTwitch. He told me I should have contacted him sooner. But I had no idea how to and figuured he would be busy.
Swam out to the first buoy and back to get a feel for the water and practice entering and exiting the surf.
