Pre-race routine:

Woke up early, ate breakfast. Went to Boulder Res. Still dark when I arrived! Set up transition area, went to water to warm up
Event warmup:

Swam for a few minutes. The water was warmer than the air temp!
Swim
  • 23m 37s
  • 750 meters
  • 03m 09s / 100 meters
Comments:

I am WAY too slow at swimming!
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster!
Transition 1
  • 05m 27s
Comments:

Long run to the transition area. Felt a bit shaky. Had a Clif Shot and slowly got myself together
What would you do differently?:

Undo the velcro on my bike shoes before T1!
Bike
  • 1h 07m 46s
  • 17 miles
  • 15.05 mile/hr
Comments:

Got a strong headwind coming up rt 119, which is also an incline over a few miles.

No wind on the swim, but it started on the bike, and got really bad on the run
What would you do differently?:

Pray for no wind on my next race day
Transition 2
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

Another Clif Shot.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 32m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

OMG! Now, the wind picks up to a sustained 30 mph with gusts higher than that. The way out was a crosswind, the way back was an angled headwind. My body was getting pushed (literally!) by the wind. Had a hard time maintaining my pace with the strong wind.
What would you do differently?:

Again, pray for no wind.
Post race
Warm down:

A hug from my daughter, a walk to get food, and relax

What limited your ability to perform faster:

WIND!

Event comments:

I liked the course and had a great time. Would have been wonderful without the wind!

YOU ROCK! I got there too late to see any of the action today, but those winds were horrible! You did awesome for a mommy/student/employee/triathlete! Nobody can take that away from you.

I'll pray for perfect weather for the Diva's tri, but then I'm praying for snow!! ;-)

CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS! The winds can really be awful in that area, bummer for that, but what a pretty setting for a race. What was up with the longer bike ride? Did it feel any worse when you got off the bike to run?
Enjoy and relax today!

The longer bike ride was b/c it was Labor day weekend and they feared extra traffic on the road to the res.  so, we did a long loop instead!  Nice ride, but a few tough hills.  And yes, my legs were pretty well spent - at least at first.  Once I got a rhythm for the run, I felt good!  Well, except for the wind! lol

Way to go Cathy,

Sorry I didn't get to meet up with you. I didn't have web access so I didn't get your PM until today. You had a great race! Man that wind blew! I hope you had a great time. Hopefully someday I can meet up with all of the East Slope BTers.

Congrats on doing so well - it was SERIOUSLY windy that day!!!

Did you like the Race the Rockies event? I'm thinking of doing the series next summer if I hear good things from people who have done the races this year.

WAY TO GO CATHY!  Sounds like the wind was really difficult...just think of how strong that will make you for your next race though
