I have dells and have had no problems and they have great customer service... I had a lcd screen go out on my laptop a few months after warranty expired and they fixed it free of charge. It took 4 days with shipping it to them, them fixing it and then receiving it back...

Dells are fine, just stay away, far far far far far away, from HP/Compaq. Expensive, poorly built pieces of crap.

Mac!  I'm on my second PowerBook

If I were to buy a Windows laptop, it would be from Dell. That's where I bought my only Windows machine a few years ago. It sits in the corner, hardly used.  Once in a while, I'm forced to use it when  my kids and my wife claim my Power Mac, PowerBook and the family iMac.

I just ordered a Dell Inspiron 9300 yesterday.  Wife's got a Powerbook G4.

I've got a question on wireless mice, though - Who likes what?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000. Great laptop. I'm a big fan of the Dell laptops. They build them pretty well and have good customer support. If you are looking at wireless mice, make sure you get the onboard bluetooth controller.

I have an USB microsoft wireless notebook optical mouse model#1023.  I like it because it's one of those where it doesn't matter if you are left or right handed.

HP Pavilion DV-1000 Centrino, absolutely bulletproof and reliable. Same price as any other equally equipped notebook.

I've had great luck with Toshiba laptops--generally keep them ~5 years (on my 3rd now).
