YYYAAAAAHHHHOOOOOEEEEE! Congrats! I am in my first year of IDP so I appreciate all that you have been through. But after grad school, I am happy to be gainfully employed with a great local design firm (better get back to work!). So now that you are an *OFFICIAL LICENSED ARCHITECT* are they paying you the BIG bucks or what? Curious minion/intern wants to know.
I got a job with a firm right out of undergrad and then started grad school a few years later while working fulltime. So my grad work was concurrent with my experience.
If you have a BArch or your Masters you only need 3 years of work experience. I had only a BS Arch so could not test officially (I could have after 7 years ). I got my MArch when I was at about 6 years experience, and getting the authorization to test and all that took time. Plus I failed one test out of the nine, so I had to wait 6 months to take it again. :-P
When I started as a fresh-out-of-school newb in '98 I made $12/hour (plus overtime ) and progressed at a decent pace from there. When I changed firms in '04 I went up quite a bit by changing companies. We get our annual raise in January so I just got another 6% raise there. But our Business Manager e-mailed and said congratualtions and gave me an ADDITIONAL $1500 just for passing the tests. Let's just say I'm now making more than I thought I would at the age of 34!!
