Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5 am, ate a bowl of cereal and drank coffee. Tom picked me up a little after 6 and then we picked up Will. I ate a cliff bar on the way to the ride, which was about 30-40 minutes away. Met the other Jessica at the race site and got started.
Event warmup:

Nothing.

Comments:

We started out easy, just talking and laughing and having fun. We would break off into groups of 2 sometimes since the other Jessica was a bit slower. The guys would take turns riding with her. The guys we rode with are very strong cyclists and had an easy ride out there today, while I was huffing and puffing and getting into zone 4 while DRAFTING! But I am getting ahead of myself here...We turned onto the part of the ride that was on road and had some fun with the hills. Stopped at a convenience store and took forever getting water, going to the bathroom, etc. Finished the road part and started on the trail going north to the turnaround. At the turnaround we stopped at a SAG stop for the first time. Decided SAG stands for Salad and Grouper. I needed vaseline because I was wearing my swim suit under my bike shorts as a try-out for IMAZ. I was sore. No vaseline.Turn around and start heading back.We stopped at every SAG station on the way back, and every time I would forget that my bike computer goes to sleep after 1 minute and would lose some data. I ended up losing about 3 miles of info.
I was drinking a LOT since it was so hot and kept running out of water. At one stop I ate half a PBJ and that was great. Right before that I was fading and I think I needed the solid food. Most of the way back I was in front with either Tom or Will and they would pull me for 5 miles or so at about 21 mph. That was very challenging for me and really got me working hard, into zone 4. Tom has a very, very positive attitude and that helped a lot when I started feeling like I wished I was done.
Once we got back to the parking lot, we dropped Jessica off since she didn't want to do 100 and we kept going to the end of the trail, 6 miles one way. That 6 miles was tough. I just sucked wind and tried to keep up. Then the turn around came and we had the wind at our backs for the last 6 miles - nice. Even though I drafted, I felt like I really did some good, hard work out there today.
Nutrition was not enough. I needed more. Had 10 scoops of Infinit (no protein), water, some Gatorade the last 15 miles since I ran out of Infinit early AGAIN, and half a PBJ.
Post race
Warm down:

As soon as I got off the bike I put my running shoes on and went for a 4-5 minute run around the parking lot. Came back to Tom's pick-up truck where Will pointed out the hanging testacles on the hitch. I couldn't believe that I actually KNoW someone with truck balls!!!!!!! It was too funny.

Event comments:

A great, quiet ride. Lots of people out there just having a nice Saturday. I can't wait to go to this trail again. It is much more scenic than my usual trail.Whenever we came to an intersection, the cars always stopped for us. We saw some goofy country things too like the sign for smoked mullet and boiled peanuts and a giant pink elephant with reading glasses on.

Awesome job, Jess.

I'm pissed Lucy beat me to the "Withlacoochie" joke, though...
