Pre-race routine:

so, tom and i overslept. it was my fault. we PLANNED to get up early, have a nice breakfast, and get over to the race to hang out with the mafia a bit.

unfortunately, i use my phone as the alarm, and i just changed the time of my normal alarm, which only goes off Monday thru Friday!!!! so, it didn't go off. we got up about 50 minutes late, ate some luna bars on the car, and got there with 30 minutes to spare. did some quick jogging, joined the mafia, got a grass skirt from trix, and then pretty much it was time to go!
Event warmup:

jogged from parking to find the mafia, then jogged to some portajohns and back (didn't go though - lines were too long!!!)
Run
  • 2h 21m 31s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

for drinking amt, i drank too much at the first aid station, almost a whole cup of water, and i really felt it slosh around. so, i didn't drink from the next two, which was probably not the greatest. trixie got on my case for that one. for the rest, i had a few sips of optima, and i felt reasonably hydrated afterwards too. in fact, i've had to pee several times since the race already, so i'm definitely not dehydrated, yay!!
What would you do differently?:

BRING MY WATCH. since we got all messed up by oversleeping, i forgot my watch. so i dont' know what my splits were, which bugs me, PLUS i think i messed up in my pacing. all i know is what 10-ish miles feels like and what 11-ish miles feels like - i can't even really tell the difference in there. so, i'm pretty sure the first 4 miles were too fast, because i could feel stiffness starting already around mile 4. then i really was starting to feel it around mile 8, and i thought, shit, 5 miles left. i was able to just keep going, but my legs were just dead!!

heart and lungs no problem - could talk and stuff the whole time, it's just my legs that are the problem.
Post race
Warm down:

got cold :). hung out with jean and chatted with her and tom while we waited for rick and wendi and trix to finish. trix finished with me and ran back to find them and come finish again, cuz she's super hard core!!!

it was SOOO nice of jean to get up so early and drive down and jockstrap for us! and so nice for her to explain to me where this term came from!! haha.

then we hit mickey d's for some grub. the mafia is fun!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ummmm, myself. i should train more. :)

Event comments:

there was some food after the race, bagels and bananas and pizza. unfortunately, they ran out of pizza, i think because they didn't think about how people will go for 2nd and 3rds and all that. so by the time we got there, there was no more pizza :(. other races i've been to give out tickets so you only get 1 piece, just to make sure there is enough for everyone. i didn't mind so much, but they were TOTALLY out, so i felt bad for other peopel who were going to show up even after us (esp. the marathoners!) with no food.

Performance: Good
Course: very very flat. it was pretty nice, actually. the only problem with it was probably that it was tilted, like one side of the road was higher than the other, so you're always running on a bit of a slope.

Yeah, but I think you are on the right track!!   I bet six months (or more) ago you wouldn't believe you could even run 8 miles, let alone 13.1.

Keep training, keep thinking positive and it all will come together.

Way to go Lisa!  Your first half, and a great time too!  Sounds like the BTers are a lot of fun up there in Michigan.  Too bad I'm doing the Half in Sylvania, OH instead of Musselman!

Great job.
