I was the top lady trapshooter in Maui County a couple of years ago, then I discovered triathlon.  Can't afford both, so triathlon wins.

I'm also an artist and most years my art sales pay for the "extras" but sales have been slow.  Right now trying to sell my MTB to buy a road bike.  Can't afford both, so road racing wins.

I am involved in all things water...scuba, sailing, surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, and on and on in the water, however, I also, like others combined my love of aviation with work and owned/operated for many years 2 flight schools in Los Angeles.  One was regular fixed wing and the other was soaring our motor glider.  Both expensive to get into and to maintain, that's where the schools helped to support them.  Even now I am trying to reopen a school for gyroplanes.

I know we have other pilots on here, high five for flying.

The things that took up most of my time were Scuba and underwater photography and Fly fishing.  Also ski/snowboard, read, play drums

Motocross, I just can't seem to replace it with anything else. I doubt a huge cliff and wing suit would even compare. could probably really enjoy 4x mountain biking as well, but there are no 4x options near me. Grew up racing BMX, and now my kids have been asking to go to the BMX track. We'll give it a go when the weather turns around. Cyclocross looks like fun, I guess I just kind of dig the x sports.

Music - specifically Irish traditional music (which is a fine hobby as it also allows me to drink beer for free in pubs).  But I have to admit that there's not quite enough time to excel in both.  But they are a heck of a bunch of fun and I can't see giving either up anytime soon!

Tri's are replacing my last big hobby, motorcycle road racing... I was working on my pro license when an arthritic knee began to limit my ability to push the edge. I realized last year I would need surgery, and shortly after that caught myself referring to my MC pursuits in the past tense. I competed for nearly six years with a few regional class championships, and did compete in a few pro races that didn't require a full pro license... I guess technically I checked that box off. Ill be selling my superbike shortly to help fund the tri life. I still scratch the itch for speed in my other "hobby" as a car enthusiast. The nice days see me at the race track or on a country road in my Acura NSX.

Kite-boarding and wake surfing.  But now I go swim rather than ride around in the boat all day.  I have a 3yr old so now if it can not involve him I tend to not do it.

I play open level Racquetball and have sponsors and contracts to fufuill so I keep up my game.

I teach golf and played 1x last summer.  When I get off work I want to leave the course.

Snowboarding and skiing with my son.

And DYNAMIC SOARING with RC gliders.  Talk about a hole to throw money into.  Super fun and technical but I am about out of Money for it.

We interrupt  this marriage to bring you hunting season.  Sept 1 thu the last deer.  Love it.

Lucky for me I work at a YMCA so I can swim 50 ft from my office.

Karibu - 2011-12-28 3:02 PM Spearfishing for me. Bigger because I love it more and it costs more.

Free diving or with scuba?

Depends on the depth. I'm not a staunch free diver, if that's what your asking.

I am an avid sewer. I love to make pajamas for my kids and dresses for my niece. My latest project is a full size bed quilt that I am quilting by hand.

Used to be the above. Contemplating a street roadster for Bonneville in the future, but for now tri pretty much has my attention!

Medieval recreation.  Weird I know.  I mainly do renaissance style rapier fighting (think fight scene from Princess Bride, with less flair).

I have a blog where I write about my journey to overcome obesity including a lot about weight loss surgery, a little about nutrition and a medium amount about triathlon and exercise.

I'm also a big time figure skating fan and spend more time on figure skating boards than on triathlon boards. I used to figure skate but I sucked and eventually gave it up. Triathlon is more rewarding because I don't suck as much at it.

Horseback riding. I took my older horse (he'll be 26 soon) out of the sports about 5 years ago. That's about the time I took up triathlon. Then I bought a new horse 2 years ago and now I'm all back into that sport. Since I live in the alps snowboarding and cross country skiing are a big deal during the winter. Not this year though since we still don't have snow.

It almost killed me to sell my motorcycle when I moved to the UK.  The best part about moving back to North America in 2012 will be that I can buy myself another bike!  Still trying to figure out if I'll get another VFR (but definitely NOT the latest model as it's entirely too fugly to be allowed on the streets) or a BMW K1300s, or a Triumph Sprint, or a Ducati Multistrada, or...

No other hobbies right now. I just want to say how great this thread is, amazing how diverse the site is and how interestingly free time can be spent. This is absolutely the longest online thread that didn't make me ask myself - "WTF? Did you really just read all that? Go do something, anything" Good on You All!

Bigger? No.  But I did take a hiatus for a couple of years to play roller derby. Tri kept rearing it's sweaty head though and I kept finding myself with an urge to race.

Crossword puzzles are my top pick for non-strenuous activity, and I keep trying to get into gardening.

Playing guitar. Was lead player in a band for a few years. Played a bunch of places, including the Hard Rock in Las Vegas a couple times. Fun! . I thought that was an expensive hobby until I found tri....
