Payson, AZ | Subject: RE: Anyone here have a bigger 'hobby/interest' than triathlon? Mountaineering and rock climbing. Although I admit to not doing either very much lately though. I miss it in my schedule. I use to do it all the time when I lived back in Oregon and had a great group of people I was willing to be in risky situations with cause I literally trusted them with my life. Now it is more a vacation type activity when I can get together with any of them. |

Member 52 Florida Panhandle | Subject: RE: Anyone here have a bigger 'hobby/interest' than triathlon? markch - 2011-12-28 12:36 PM I'm a serious deer hunter from the first of October through the end of the year, and three of my kids hunt with me regularly. The rest of the year I can concentrate on running, biking and swimming. But during the fall my training really gets hurt by heading for the deer stand every opportunity.
I don't have kids, but my hunting and training are the same way. I LOVE bow hunting, but I hunt public land so I have to spend a lot more of the year scouting and finding the right spot! I now have my workouts organized for the week days and at least one full day on the weekend is dedicated to putting one down if I'm lucky.. |

Regular 181 San Luis Obispo | Subject: RE: Anyone here have a bigger 'hobby/interest' than triathlon? After competing in Ironman Triathlons, I changed over to endurance swimming which I continued for six years. I've also taken to hiking from 4 - 12 miles a day. I really just enjoy to peaceful environment and being surrounded by nature. Of course my Labrador prefers that I'm into hiking over swimming as he gets to participate. I'm back into my old Ironman habits though...having to alternate shoes and replacing the pair every 3-4 months. LOL. At least it doesn't cost as much to hike as it does to do triathlons or have a membership to use a pool. |

Master 2236 Denison Texas | Subject: RE: Anyone here have a bigger 'hobby/interest' than triathlon? My "recurring" interest have been: flying-off and on pursuing my instrument rating-mostly off now-med expired, not current Model Railroading-recently let it go and sold out-can't see well enough for N-Scale anymore, will move up Woodworking-furniture building. This works out nicely for me lately and I get to build things for family members as well as work around the house Have dabbled in archery hope to try bow hunting, in years past some small game hunting-dove, quail, pheasant gardening, rabbits (none currently), chickens (eggs)-I once set out to see how much of our food needs I could meet out of my own backyard and still keep a job-moderate success, I think I could feed us in a pinch but it might get a little old. Right now my focus has been on trying to get a small start-up business off the ground and keep some kind of consistent workout schedule. Edited by Av8rTx 2011-12-29 10:58 AM |

I've been a classical pianist since I was a wee lass, and I still play and perform today, so that's one big hobby. My other big hobby is motorcycling. Nice to see other motorcycle enthusiasts here, and...am I the only female rider? I ride a 2007 Ducati Monster and I used to ride a 2001 Kawasaki Ninja EX250, and before that, a wee Yamaha dirt bike. |

Most of my work these past few years have been for kids. Lots of murals and hand carved toy chest. Then my wife voluntered me to start painting wine glasses to donate for Zoo auctions. That opened a whole can of worms. The money goes to great conservation efforts around the world. |

DROOOL!!!! All this talk of Monsters, Bonnevilles and Nortons all my wife will agree to is a Vespa Love the Old school Norton Commando's! My wife rides, now if I could only get her into doing tri's! She runs some, and bikes, but hates swimming because she gets cold too easily, even in what I think most would consider too warm of a pool. Off topic I know but, any tips to help with that would be greatly appreciated. |

Until 4 months ago, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was my love for many years, never thought I could live without training and competing in BJJ, but a neck injury made me re-evaluate my life and priorities, so now I am pursuing Triathlons as a hobby, hoping it can fill the void, so far I have enjoyed the training. |

Regular 165 | Subject: RE: Anyone here have a bigger 'hobby/interest' than triathlon? Cool hobbies all around. I saw someone on this thread (Chuckyhead?) is sponsored in racquetball. That was my sport prior to triathlon. I started at 14 and eventually was picked up by Ektelon then Kennex. Still have all my Kennex stuff in the closet, but don't play much. The last two places I've lived the racquetball "scene" has been dead with courts being converted to dreadful spin class rooms (which I now appreciate). Played a ton in South Carolina and was competitive at the open level as well. Also picked up squash along the way and enjoy both equally, but rarely play either. Also am an avid drummer. This stems from an early love for Rush. I played in a band in my South Carolina days many moons ago, but now the kit is relegated to the garage next to my pain cave. Wound up building my own set of electronic drums (akin to Roland set) when I started having kids so that I could play through headphones. This has worked great and saved me a ton of money. Its a great stress reliever to bang out some tunes after a tough day at the office. |

I take on a new "hobby" ever few years and learn all about it , and then move on. However I always circle back to woodworking when I get the itch to build. Right now I a building a 4 foot long hallway runner table. I am a little rusty, though. my tenons are a little sloppy. Training was low this week because of the table, so that must be my competing hobby, right?
