Subject: please recommend tights that keep your butt warm

I don't understand why, as it's by far the largest, fattiest part of my body, but lately during cold outdoor runs, my butt has felt like a frozen butterball turkey. It feels like it's burning because it gets so cold. The entire rest of my body is fine.

Methinks I need some new tights. I'm willing to spend the money on them as long as they prevent butt freeze. A lot of people in my running group seem to have cwx tights. Are they effective? Any other suggestions?

Run harder and on more hills to generate more heat.

Do you wear anything over the tights? I usually have pants or a pair of shorts over the top. I have a pair of Sugoi cycling tights that do well.

always go for tights with a pair of shorts over top. Typically one of my running shorts with a built in compression liner. I effectively end up with 2 layers + a windbreaker.

LOL. Find me a place that has more hills than Cincinnati and I will.

Sometimes I wear two pairs of tights. (Admittedly, the ones I have aren't pricey so they're probably not great quality.) I could try running shorts over top but I'm skeptical because my running shorts are all so thin. I don't like pants when running because I don't like them flapping around my ankles.

I wear spandex shorts under my tights. That's good down to the teens in temp.

My tights are Nike Dri-Fit and I use them to bike in as well with tri shorts under them.

CW-X has some tights that are lined with a fleece. Other thing you can do that helps is wear a jacket or top that covers your bum. I have a couple running jackets that have sort of drop in the back hem so it does in fact cover up my rear.

Let's just say Sir Mix-A-Lot was thinking of someone like me when he coined the phrase "little in the middle but you got much back". I have to be pretty much drowning in an article of clothing for it to cover my butt! And if it's long but form-fitting, it will pop right up. But fleece-lined tights may be the key - none of my tights are lined.

Cut through department stores and use the stairs. They won't mind as long as you buy something!

I should have mentioned about the fleece lining too. Tights don't necessarily have an exact temperature rating, but they should be able to give general guidelines on what conditions they're meant for. There can be a significant difference. I can be fine just under zero.

Poly Pro's are another option.  They're great for extreme cold training.  Layers. 2-3 layers of material around anything with poly pro's will keep everything warm in cold temps.

x2 on the Nikes, I use them and they are great. My wife swears by the Under Armor cold weather gear bottoms. She has two pair and runs outside in the WI winter consistantly without complaint.

I found some Nike hyperwarm tights on sale today so I picked them up. They're fleece-lined and they definitely felt way warmer than my usual tights when I tried them on. We shall see if they pass the test. Temps are supposed to go up tomorrow, anyway, but there's usually some rough weather around here in February.

When the temps get low, I usually put these underwear on under my tights. They keep the tush warm despite the awesome panty lines. http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4378883&cp=3677318.1...

Sporthill (based in my hometown of Eugene, Oregon) makes some great winter running tights that are also nice for cross-country skiing or winter hiking. They have an online catalog. (No, not sponsored by them; just like their stuff and perfectly positioned to take advantage of their warehouse sales.)

I Love my CWX insulator tights when the weather gets pretty frosty here, best I have found so far.

When it's really cold, I wear underwear under my tights. Road Runner Sports makes SUPER comfy women's underwear, wicking, don't ride up, and cheaer than UA, etc.

I bought a cheap pair at Academy Sports it was their brand BCG? and they work great for temps between 10-25 degrees. Anything warmer and I'm in shorts and anything colder I usually put a pair of UA tights underneath.

I have not read the whole thread yet, but I have found no tights that keep my butt warm.  I just put a pair of shorts over the top and that does the trick (and gives me extra pockets).  : )

I have a target running skort that I slip over my tights. the skort has built in shorts so there's 2 extra layers to keep a tush toasty.

Tights with shorts over.

Tights with wind breaker over.

Thermal climbing pants.

Thermal climbing pants with wind breaker.

If the above don't work it is well below zero and have a beer by the fire.
