Subject: Good vacation triathlon???
My wife and I are planning on doing a weekend get away this year and I was wondering if any had some suggestions on which races are the nicest vacation spots? Something in ontario and that she would enjoy as much as I will since she doesn't race.

Bracebridge is nice.

Nice setup, nice area, very well organized race.
This is the one my wife enjoyed the most and I liked it very much as well.

Some nice B&B all around the place.

I think it's the first or second week end of august.

Cobourg is pretty too.  B&Bs, beautiful beach with a boardwalk for strolls and some good eating nearby.  Race is well run.

My top 3 recommendations are:

#3 Muskoka 70.3 (September) is the 'big' race in Ontario, and the Deerhurst resort is an excellent place for a spouse to enjoy themselves while your out doing your thing. BUT it is in mid-September so weather can be iffy.

#2 Ottawa is a nice place and the National Triathlon Weekend (4-Aug) has races of every distance. Plenty of museums, events, etc and I've always enjoyed my visits to the nation's capital.

My #1 suggestion is the MSC Welland weekend in late June (sprint on Saturday, Half-iron on Sunday). Its one of the best smaller races in Ontario (IMHO). Book a nice B&B around Niagara-on-the-Lake, see the vinyards, see The Falls, a romantic dinner or night of gambling in the city of Niagara Falls. There are loads of activities in the region.

Well I'm glad to see there are some suggestions. Has anyone done one of the 5150 series races since the one is at muskoka this year? I don't know if I would be trained enough for a 70.3. Welland has a certain appeal though because I really am not a fan of driving. I wonder what the boss lady will think.Laughing

Well it looks like it is going to be something along the lines of bracebridge, orillia or muskoka. The better half is saying that alot of the other places are too close to home. I don't blame her. With only around 100km from home we might still be able to hear the kids yelling.Laughing  Whichever i can't believe she is agreeing to a get away that includes a race.

Don't know where you are but another option might be the ktown tri - www.ktowntri.com  It's the long weekend in Aug so usually nice weather, and in a tourist area so lots to do.

i was just thinking the same thing about k-town.  There are some nice races (as far as i know) in the somersault series in eastern Ontario too.  I think Brockville, Ottawa, etc for nice/touristy locations.
