Who's racing?

I've gone to this race as a spectator to cheer on my TNT Mentees, and I DNS'd once due to an injury.  If all goes well, this will be my first time actually racing on this fast course.

I am. I'll be moving back to Northern Virginia this summer, so this will be a local race for me -- and my first tri in the U.S. I can't wait! I've heard only great things about the Nations Tri.

Anyone done this race before that can tell me how "challenging" the run is as stated in the desciption.  Are we talking lots of hills.  I did the Marine Corps marathon in DC and it wasn't too bad, but I'd like to know what to train for on this one.

Yeah, I have no idea why they describe it as "challenging." The run course is pancake flat. Way, way flatter than MCM.

I'm super excited about the race. This is my 6th TNT event but this time my sister has joined up with me. She is training on Flex Team out of Chicago while I'm in LA but its such a great experience to have her involved.

Thanks, I couldn't figure how it would be hilly running along the river.

I'm not super familiar with the bike course (this will be my first Nation's Tri), but I think it has a few rollers. Nothing to worry about, though. DC, especially where the race is staged, is quite flat. See you out there!

Anyone in the Northern Va area training for this race? I would like to particpate in some group runs, bikes and swims - btw, anyone know of any places in to OWS around DC?

Just signed up!  Thinking of checking out the run course this weekend.  Does anyone know if there are side walks along the entire run course?

You should be good to run the entire course. It looks like the first part is all on the Mall, so sidewalk/gravel path. The second half is just around Hains Point, which is road and open to cars, but traffic is minimal and it's very popular with runners and cyclists. I run/ride there nearly every day.

Perhaps a silly question, but as a non-DC person I'm more than a bit curious: what can I expect in the Potomac? Our OWS here in Michigan are pretty crystal clear and clean...

Not crystal clear or clean.

Some might even call it disgusting.

(Honestly, I don't think it's terrible, but I'm not easily grossed out. It's notoriously pretty polluted.)

Agreed.  I'd do a race in it, but that is about it.  I certainly wouldn't consider it a "swimmin' hole", but for a race it would be fine.  I'd just try to not take in any water.

@meggfishy & Sous:  thanks for confirming my visions of the river. Not that it makes it any better between now and then, but at least I now know what to expect. :-)

I thought that some of you might like to read my race report for info about the course conditions.

Not noted in my RR.

They have fixed the pre-race issues to a great extent.  It is still a big race, so there is still some crowding waiting to race.

The roads are mostly smooth, but there are several potholes and rough areas.

Thanks for the link Mike,

what is the swim like in the patomoic?  dark, dirty and dank?  any current?  it looks like a TT start, how was the crowding in the water?  Thanks,

Brad
