so I'm ordering my new Giro Selector Aero helmet and the sales guy tells me that I shouldn't use it in an outdoor Triathlon.  It's too hot and should only be used for indoor Triathlons.  He was dead serious and tried getting me to buy a more vented helmet for outdoors.  I told him I generally only do Tri's when its cold out so I should be fine.

I've heard they really improve your trainer times.

Not to mention their improved protection for your head in case you crash.

I would have kept the conversation going as long as possible to see what other types of "gems" he might say.

The only way I can wrap my head around this as anything other than a litmus test to see if you'd call him out: is it possible he thinks that tris are done in velodromes?

It still doesn't make sense, but that's the only way indoor-tri makes any sense that doesn't involve sitting on a trainer.

That's kind of what I was thinking.  Maybe he was thinking of velodromes or something along those lines.

I know there's been mixed reviews of the Giro Selector potentially not having enough ventilation so i'm guessing he saw something about that and extrapolated a little bit.

So, I can wear mine on the trainer too? They told me I should only use the non-vented on the swim.

Do you belong to a gym? You should ask the staff if they'll video tape you. Get on a stationary bike - recumbent would be better - sans gear. Then start adding gear. Gloves, sunglasses, jacket?/arm warmers?, and then your helmet. Don't forget more than one water bottle. Just get on for a bit and see if you can get the reactions video taped. Then..

1) Post so we can see

2) Send a link to the moron at that store
