Swim
Comments: Didn't warm up in the water which was a mistake. After being in for a few minutes water was fine, but the initial shock had me doing sidestroke. Good thing was it never entered my mind to quit. Swim really wore me out. What would you do differently?: Start out swimming freestyle, couldn't have gone the whole way, but it would have helped my time & energy expended immensley. Transition 1
Comments: Wearing the tri suit really helped. Being wore out from the swim didn't. Jogged from beach to transition area, then walked to my bike. What would you do differently?: Maybe take the gel pack while in transition instead of out on the bike. Bike
Comments: I think the course was well laid out, & even though traffic wasn't blocked, the course wasn't very heavily traveled. I was still bonked from the swim when I hit the hill, but recovered nicely for the rest of the ride, knowing I couldn't really push too hard with the run still to come. What would you do differently?: Didn't have my Polar setup correctly, so was flying blind as far as cadence, HR, & speed, So I should have made sure of this, with all the standing around time I had Transition 2
Comments: No problems here, even took time to tie my shoes twice to make sure they were tight. What would you do differently?: Take time to put on HR strap Run
Comments: After the way the day started, just didn't feel like I could push it too much here. Breathing was soo hard that I got a slight side ache from the liquid on the bike & beginning of the run. What would you do differently?: Take time to put on HR strap before bike section. Post race
Warm down: Walked around drank water & ate a banana & another gel cause I didn't feel like pizza. What limited your ability to perform faster: Blowing up on the swim Event comments: Very good course for a 1st race Last updated: 2006-04-15 12:00 AM

Worried about whether the race would be canceled or not, & how far 500 meter is when you actually lay it out in a lake. Visited with the guy set up beside me, told him just to move my stuff if it was in the way, he said you'll be long gone when I get here, this is my 1st one & I'm nervous as hell. I stuck out my hand and said welcome to the club.
Got to race area prbly by 6:30, which would have gave us time to test water & go through the pre-race meeting. Ended up have 3 hrs to vist & find some other 1st timers.
Had a bagel at about 5am with a Carb Boom gel on it, & water. By 10am race start, I was feeling hungry.
Mainly stretching, as I was more concerned with finishing the swim.
