Venice, Florida
United States
South County Family YMCA
89F / 32C
Total Time = 1h 30m 46s
Overall Rank = 146/350
Age Group = 40-99 Clyde
Age Group Rank = 4/10
Pre-race routine:

Wake at 5:00, have a bagel, water, and finish packing. Out the door by 5:30.
Event warmup:

Walk down to the water edge, stretch and such. I also spent a bit of time thinking about the fact that I was on a cruise a week ago and had 3 spotty weeks of training prior to this event. I'm just laying out the excuses before I get too far into this. All joking aside, I kept my expectations low and figured I could just have some fun and learn a little bit.
  • 08m 52s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards

My swim is just not good. Until I put some effort into it, it ain't gonna get better either. It may be time to join the Master's group in the off season.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim better.
Transition 1
  • 03m 9s

Another area that could use some improvement. Just work through the steps mentally and get it all down in my head. Also, make sure that the bike is in the proper gear and the comp is reset and it'll all be OK.
What would you do differently?:

Get my helmet on and strapped correctly.
  • 42m 35s
  • 14.6 miles
  • 20.57 mile/hr

The only part I have no complaints about. The aerobars really helped, I was able to keep going very well. Even steered in aero through a number of corners. Quite happy with the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Give the whole bike a once over prior to the race.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s

Dismount was good, long run to the rack. Off/on went OK, so I have no complaints.
What would you do differently?:

Don't try to inhale 4 gummies while exiting transition. Get everything in place, then grab 1. 4 is stupid, duh.
  • 35m 7s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 17s  min/mile

Another slow effort. I gotta improve this in the off season.
What would you do differently?:

More time on the streets, more running in general.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

My less than stellar cardio capacity.

Event comments:

I enjoy this race and I can't wait until the road is re-paved. It is supposed to happen this fall.

Nice job Chris! I'd take your swim time any day of the week!

Glad I'm not the only on that forgets to re-set the bike comp & grab a low gear before racking the bike.

I think you did a great job considering all that you've had going on recently. Congrats!

For a race that made the "stupid race decision thread" ...

Congrats, DubSix! You really pulled this one out of the hat ... errr, your suitcase of courage.

Great race!! Even if your prep leading up was less spotty I would say the same thing. There will always be things to improve on and it sounds like you have already identified a few.
