The B2b will be my 1st IM. Was hoping that anyone that has done this event in the past could give me some info and walk me thru the transitions . Wasn't really sure how T1&2 were set up and how the special needs for bike and run were handled. Thanks

Friday, set up T1 in Wrightsville Beach.  For the full, that just means setting up your bike.  Your gear is in a bag (think white trash bag) that you grab on the way into T1.

Saturday morning starts with a lot of buses.

I am staying downtown so I am taking the bus from the Hilton to T1.  If you do this, you will need reservations for the bus.

The bus drops you off at T1 for your final prep.  Pump tires, put helmet with bike, final bag drop offs.  There will be a mechanic near the Bike Out.

When T1 is set up, you and your wetsuit get on the bus to swim start.

7:30 comes, you swim, you get out of the water and there will be wetsuit strippers on the dock and a freshwater shower (warm) and a warming tent if you need it.

Then there is a long run (400m or so) to get to Swim In.

Just inside Swim In, you will see your gear bag.  There should be a volunteer there to hand it to you.  From there, you can to into changing tents, you pack everything into your gear bag and get on your bike.

112 miles later, you pull into T2 in downtown Wilmington.  I didn't race last year but in the past a volunteer took your bike from you (so plan to gram your Garmin if you are using the same watch for the run!).  A volunteer should give you your gear bag, you change, packing everything back into your gear bag, and then you run.

When you are done, all of your gear bags should be in a pile.  I give DH a buddy pass and he handles that.

Does that make sense?

Kindasortahuh? Lol... Sounds like a lot of logistics. Does your Helmet stay with the bike in T1 or in your gear bag? Does someone already know to get your bike or do you have to call out your bib #? No problems finding your wetsuit after the event? I guess they go over all of this in the meeting on Friday? Sure its easier than it sounds right? Thanks for the reply .

It's really not bad.  Honest!

Does your Helmet stay with the bike in T1 or in your gear bag?

Either.  You'll also want to add your water bottles, nutrition, etc. to the bike and pump your tires race morning.

Does someone already know to get your bike or do you have to call out your bib #?

You exit the water, grab/handed T1 bag, changing tent then go to your bike.  The bikes are located between the changing tent and the bike out.

No problems finding your wetsuit after the event?

Place your wetsuit into your gear bag. The gear bag with wetsuit appear T2 for you to gather up.  I'd write my name inside the wetsuit just in case!  It's actually kind of awesome if you have someone with a Buddy Pass.  When I finished, the bike was on the car and my T1 stuff was in the hotel room Smile

I guess they go over all of this in the meeting on Friday? Sure its easier than it sounds right? Thanks for the reply .

Yes, the go over it at check in, in the pre race meeting and in the athlete's guide.

Hey ya'll! Just threw my helmet in the ring for the race! It'll be my 3rd year at B2B, did the half last two years, wasn't going to go this year, but there's just something about this race ....

Anyway, without really planning to, I've done a lot of distance training and events this year, so figured, this is a great time to try the full.

I'm grateful some of you have a "tide chart guy" to give us the scoop.

Looking forward to it!!

Any thoughts on what the weather is generally like during that time of year? Most importantly, how's the humidity?

The typical temp when you mount your bike is around 45-50 degrees and the high that day should be around mid 60's to low 70's. Humidity is not an issue. Wind can definitely be an issue. Do as many rides leading up to the race in headwinds, especially long rides. Water temp will prob be around 65-70 degrees.

Signed up for the full- my first 140.6. My first sprint triathlon was the Wilmington YMCA several years ago, so even though I haven't spent much time in Wilmington I feel familiar & comfortable with the swim course.

I am training with TriDot's "free for feedback" plan. Hopefully that will pan out- so far I feel positive about my first 'real' training plan & coach.

Being a newbie, I have a bike question about the full. My plans are to use my zipp 404 clinchers, but kind of worried about a flat. I have used tire sealant with success, but I know this may not always work. Do they allow a team car where I could replace a wheel if needed?

I think that would be considered outside assistance and subject you to a DQ. There's neutral support on the course, but not much so you can expect to wait. Best bet is to practice changing your tire.

Thanks, that was my concern with the glue on tires and not being able to change them. Might have to rethink my wheel choice.

How have the fueling stations looked on the bike during previous B2B races? For now I am planning to use Perpetuem, but if Heed is readily available I might try to train with that on the bike and see how it goes.

Well the half is now sold out---except charity slots.... That went fast at the end!! I hadn't been paying close enough attention because I'm registered for the full and was most likely going to drop down to the half since I suffered a fracture in my leg when hit by a car on a ride...now I'm either doing full or not racing at all--think I can still get 1/2 refund.............

Don't you mean tubulars?

I've never heard of anyone glueing clinchers!

Just signed up for my First 140.6! Can't wait. Did anyone who did it last year attend the dinner or brunch? Was the food any good? Trying to decide if I want to attend.

Being new I have a (maybe silly) question. How are they passing out the Heed? is it just packs of the powder you put in your own water bottle, And the water they'll be passing out, I'm guessing in 16oz-20oz plastic screw on top bottles?

I was just coming here to ask the exact same question. I did the half last year, but didn't attend either. I was thinking about it for this year, but was also wondering what was served/what the meal was like? Any input would be appreciated!

As I recall from last year, the water was passed out in regular bottles, but the ones with the sports caps. Every bottle that I got was already opened and ready to go. The HEED was mixed and in Hammer bike bottles. I just tossed the one on my frame and took a new one.

Hope this helps!

The route maps are now posted and there's a change(slight) to the run course. It looks like both full and half racers now do the short out/back past the convention center in the beginning of the race - last year, only people doing the full had that little segment that took you towards the PPD building. In addition, all racers now run further along Greenfield Lake before the turn-around, and those annoying triangles through the neighborhood adjoining the park are gone.

Near as I can tell, no changes to last year's bike course. And the swim course will never change!
