Top 10% of Age group or overall in any USAT race counts as a qualifier for nationals (even super sprints). |

I believe that you can qualify at any USAT race (any distance, that is). The event for which you qualify is the Oly, as that one is by invite only. The sprint is open, so anyone could race it. So, you finished "in the money" in a sprint (and congrats, btw!), but the event that gets you into is the restricted Oly race. GO!!! Matt |

You can qualify doing any distance. No mistake. It does seem strange to me that some people who go do their first oly at AGN--yikes! So, are you going? :) |

Matt Um, Matt, we don't ever talk about that...;) I think of it as spending time with my sponsor. They do pay for my racing, equipment, and living expenses after all! I'm running an experiment as we speak. It has nice long 30 minutes of sit and watch. Translation: 30 minute increments for BT. |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Age Group Nationals---anyone else? Originally posted by vertseven I, too, qualified. I'm contemplating it a lot. On one hand, we get to visit my wife's family in Wisconsin. On the other hand, it's an Oly in Wisconsin. Cold water and hills. This Floridian isn't ready for that. Oh, and I've never run an Olympic tri, either. There are some hills, but it's not really *that* hilly. The area by the lake tends to be flatter than more inland until you get way farther north. The grades may not be any more than the bridges you see, just go on a bit longer, so could very well be closer to Florida terrain than over by like IM Wisc or Rev3 Dells. You would likely say Racine (also on the lake) has some hills, but it's really on the flat side when looking at the others for comparison. When times are slower there it's due to wind & heat. It has some fast times when those aren't as present and/or someone can handle them well. The swim is in a semi-protected bay, so the water might not be that cold. It's also later in the summer. Could very well be just under wetsuit legal temps or maybe over. Could have the lake turn-over, so cold is a possibility, but more likely it's fine. So none of the above seems to be a significant reason to not do it. |

Originally posted by switch As for Fisherman's dbag comments, I guess I would just say that there are dbags everywhere. What I saw at this race were a lot of people just really, really excited to be there. Everyone seemed really nice and there was a fun vibe in the group. women in this sport I find to be tremendously more likable than men. Men also behave much different with women than with men. I don't discount your experience at all, I wish I'd ever had one! I've had some great experiences but I've also met a lot of really lousy people, too. there seems to be a corollary between how fast someone is and how much of a 'bag they are, that's all. |

Master 3888 Overland Park, KS | Subject: RE: Age Group Nationals---anyone else? I got in the "easy" way, 1st in AG at a local sprint. I'm about a 2:25 guy right now, hoping to be sub 2:20, maybe even 2:15 by August. Apparently I can improve alot aerodynamically on the bike and it's not just about the engine..... I'll be lucky to get top 3rd in AG but if the event has the same pinache as HyVee that' hard to pass up. It's about 9.5 hours from home so I'll drive unless Southwest has a smoking deal going. They used to have $49 fares from here. |

Fair enough. I think this is all true, for the most part. There are some really, really nice fast guys though. A lot of them post on this board--even in this thread! One of the nicest fast guys I've ever met is LB's son--and he's a TEENAGER! ;) One thing I've noticed is that I often get mirrored back what I put out. If I smile a lot and am encouraging to others, I get that back. I'm not sure if it works the same way for dudes, and I can imagine it might not, but I think it's a pretty good default temperament :) |

64 | Subject: RE: Age Group Nationals---anyone else? Originally posted by Exige I got 2nd age group at a local USAT olympic and got nothing? Also if the Tri had overall winners (eg open elite waves) that weren't counted as age group and they would normally be in your AG, if they were faster than you then they would count before you with regards to top 10%. The way I read qualification rules, if there's 11 in your AG (or would be in your AG) and you're 2nd you qualify. |

Master 3888 Overland Park, KS | Subject: RE: Age Group Nationals---anyone else? Originally posted by Exige I got 2nd age group at a local USAT olympic and got nothing? 1. Was it top 10% ? You can get 2nd in AG but be 2/8 etc. I think there's a generous round up rule so if you get 2nd out of 15 you get in. 2. Was your race results sent in by the RD? That has to happen to get the USAT invite. You can look up races on the USAT website. |
