Up at 5:30. Set up transition area at 6:00. Put trash bag under stuff ground was wet, covered running shoes. My daughter and I went to Tim Horton's for coffee and Cinnamon raisin bagel w/ lt cream cheese. Dressed for swim and chatted with friends family other athletes.

Swim
  • 58m 32s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim course was good. It was a more technical swim (that must been why I was slow, along with being a poor swimmer.
What would you do differently?:

I need to stop sucking at swimming
Transition 1
  • 05m 33s
Comments:

Everything was good, except the issue with my nutrition (see below).
What would you do differently?:

I pre-filled the pockets on my jersey and dumped all of my gels on the ground. I lost time picking everything up. Yes, every gel for the entire race! I

Comments:

The ride was good, but the rainstorm during the swim and beginning of the bike slowed the course down. I worked really hard on the bike this past winter and I have to give some credit to the Sufferfest videos.
What would you do differently?:

My ride was really good and I am happy with the results.
Transition 2
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

I had a gu in transition. I had some difficulty putting running shoes on. My feet were soaked and covered with road grim. I spent a little extra time putting body glide on my ankles because my shoes were so wet.

  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. Thank God for flat Pepsi. I was dying at the turn around. I drank 2 Pepsi's going into the turn around 2 more coming out and then another at the next aid station and it saved my butt.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Running slow and swimming slower.

Event comments:

Great Race and location, the awards ceremony was good. They gave away $7,500.00 in prizes. Boston Market catered. The food was good and hot.

The three disciplines of triathlon are steeped in rhythm. Think of watching a well-trained swimmer, gliding smoothly down the lane, arms moving like clockwork, breathing every third stoke.

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.
