Hilarious thread... I always go for locker #207 @ Lifetime Fitness. If I don't get it, I try for #205 or #209. Why? I don't really know... probably because it's close to the mirror?

I pick a row where there are presently no people, and as far away from the mirrors/sinks/amenities as possible as will be the least congestion. oddly, even though I put my stuff in the lowest traffic area, I don't carry a lock with me and never put a lock on the locker. I often forget my locker number and sometimes have to open several lockers to find mine.

As far as parking, whatever space doesn't have any cars next to it when possible, and never next to the car corral

So, why not? I ask because not only do you sometimes have to open several lockers, so do people who are looking for an unoccupied locker. It gets frustrating to open 3 or 4 lockers that don't have locks only to find someone's stuff in their. I always think 2 things:

It would be a benefit to everyone to use a lock so those lockers are instantly identified as "in use".

Why don't people lock up their stuff?

Super dangerous move at my YMCAs. Only time I've EVER forgotten my lock and risked it: cash (like 5 bucks, luckily I don't carry a lot) and cell phone stolen. I will turn the car around to get my lock if I forget it, or bring my entire gym bag into the cardio room or pool area if I don't have my lock. Just not worth the risk to me.

My gym has locks built into them, you trade in your car keys for a lock.  They normally just give you one, but I suppose you could ask for one.  They tend to know who the regulars are and give them the 1/2 lockers, otherwise there are 1/3 lockers.

It's nice not having to remember a lock.

Ah, but doing the same thing each time is actually simpler than doing "whatever" each time.

I either pick a locker in the middle of a bunch of high school football players who like to hang around and take up all the bench space and talk trash after they work out, or by the old guy that uses so much gold bond powder after his shower it's all over everything within a 10' radius of him.

In an empty locker room I always go right next to the only other guy just to him off.

In an empty gym, say around 5am, I'll always go close to the showers, preferably near a TV.

In a jam packed gym, around 6pm (or pretty much anytime in January), I'll squeeze in anywhere I can fit.
Personal space be damned. A stranger is just a friend I haven't met yet.
