Lafayette, Louisiana

Games of Acadiana
85F / 29C
Total Time = 22m 47s
Overall Rank = 84/618
Age Group = 50-59
Age Group Rank = 7/34
Pre-race routine:

I'm on vacation this week, been home for two days, and an idle mind is the devil's plaything. So, I've signed up for tonight's Camelia Crossing 5K, a rare stand-alone 5K for me, in fact the last one I did was the inaugural running of this race two years ago when the bridge first opened. I need to establish a benchmark, though, to help figure out all my other running paces.

Not sure how to approach an evening race, 7:15pm start, so I ate a small supper (two tuna sandwiches) around 4:00.

Event warmup:

Did a little jogging, a little stretching, a little visiting, waited and watched for mama bear and the support crew.
Run
  • 22m 47s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Took a short while to whittle through the crowd (parents, don't let your children start in the first row!), then had some legitimate pacers to follow. Hurt the whole while, guess I have to do one of these 5K thingies every other year or so just to remind myself of how painful they are.
What would you do differently?:

Nada. Good solid pace throughout, even if I did fade a little in mile 3.
Post race
Warm down:

Found the crew, went eat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Old legs.

Event comments:

Great cause, supporting the Miles Perret Cancer Center, a cancer support organization, part of the Games of Acadiana, which also includes next weekend's mini-triathlon.

Nice, well-organized 5K, probably the biggest in Lafayette with over 600 participants. Only Cajun Cup (10K) has more participants. Good support, they had four or five food vendors at the post-race party, as well as a live band.

good job. "got to do one of these every other year just to remind myself of how painful they are." does this mean 5ks in general? if so, i concur. i'd much rather do a 10k than a 5k.

Nice work!

I often biatch/moan/complain when there are a few 8 or 9 year olds, or a couple of casual runners that you can hear them talking about how funny it is going to be to start in the front knowing they have absolutely no business there!

Oh well, just more people for you to pass along the way!

Are you sure you weren't riding your bike?

Nice run, if that is REALLY what you did.

We had fun watching the race. The twins are all fired up to do Cajun Cup!
Now we just have to convince Dylan to join in the fun.

Great Job, BEAR!!!
