Comments:

The long run to the water then the long run through shallow surf hurt me badly. Once I was in the water I was OK though.

I didn't have a paddler this year and navigating around the course with up to 500m between markers was extremely difficult. Last year I had a paddler and was 2nd. While my fitness wasn't as good this year as I would have liked the primary cause of my poor performance was navigation.

The general organisation needs to be worked on as a mater of priority. I had one very near collision and half a dozen close calls.

The other major problem this year is that the course was short. The 10K was probably closer to 8.5K because there is no way I swam 2h 19m for 10K.
What would you do differently?:

Next year I'll bring my own paddler.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mostly the lack of a paddler.

Event comments:

Some serious work is needed on this event. This was the 5th year and it went backwards badly compared with the previous two years that I competed.

Nice going! Short course or not, still trying to get my head around going that far.

Meowgnificent!

By the way, in German "ocean piglet" is Meerschweinchen, which is a guinea pig

Oh come on, the course was at least 8.8, 8.9

You were awesome. You ARE awesome. I'm really sorry for the lack of foresight about a paddler. Unfortunately I think your assessment of the race is fair ... you think we of all people could have done something about it but also unfortunately not! Pfffft ... well ... I'm better at being a forthright beyotch than you are so we'll see how far that can go for next year.

Wow, congrats Meerschweinchen (thanks, Yanti, love the word!)!  What an accomplishment, swimming that far in the ocean, short course or not.

Great job Kingsley - and I am with everyone else. It doesn't matter if it is short it's still a damn long way.

Woot!  Very nicely swum - congrats!

And, yes, 8.5k "counts" as a long-azzed swim.

I got battered by the ocean in the swim but I had made it out...bruised and bloodied, but not beaten.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
