Overall Rank = 52/71
Age Group = f4044
Age Group Rank = 2/4
Pre-race routine:

This was an early one! Up at 4, out the door at 5 to get to the race about 6:30am!

The timing chips SUCKED. They are blanks all over the results page - not just mine. So since I have no swim time (but a 26 minute T1 time) I'll use the data from my garmin.
Event warmup:

No real warm up
Swim
  • 24m 68s
  • 1109 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

OMG water was FREEZING for August - 62 degrees! And usually I'd like that so I could wear my wetsuit but this river was never over my head so it was a great swim for a panicky swimmer (although lately that's not me - YAY )
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Always slower with a wetsuit - and of course my feet were numb from the cold water so I took a few extra seconds.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 49s
  • 21.76 miles
  • 18.97 mile/hr
Comments:

I did the sprint tri here last year and the bike was 2 loops. This year it was 3. Doing the same loop 3 times was mind numbing! If I go back next year it might be back to the sprint!

It also started raining on lap 1 and continued through lap 3. It ended up stopping by the end of lap 3.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

meh.
Run
  • 1h 04m
  • 6.51 miles
  • 09m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Ah my arch nemsis the run. I had decided yesterday that I was going to give it my all on the run!! So when I got out there and the first 2 miles were agony because my calves were tight I thought "how am I going to run 6 miles?" Then they finally loosened up after mile 2. By mile 5 I was feeling pretty good and decided to go for it. My splits totally show it too :) Very pleased.

Oh and in the middle the sun came out! I was afraid it would get too hot because the last 2 miles have no shade but it stayed cool enough - and then for the end the sun went back behind the clouds.
Post race
Warm down:

The awards took forever. Honestly I was expecting to leave with some bling because I knew last year there were only 2 people in my AG so we stuck around and YAY I got 2nd (out of 4 lol).

It was a good day!

Event comments:

They need a new timing company. Not to mention the chip itself was mounted on a plastic thing that cut into my skin. blech.

Other than that, this is a great local race with lots of volunteers!

(in the photo, I'm on the right. #1 never showed so #3 and I shared the spot for the pic)

Great job!!  Those run splits are super - way to go picking up the pace in the last couple miles.  Not sure a beer mug counts as "bling" but at least it's useful!!

ETA:  Love the way your shoes match your suit.  I'll bet you did that on purpose.

Great job on this one Randee. You worked through the swim and are seeing improvements, made it through the mind numbing ride and pushed yourself on the run!!!! Add in your podium finish and I'd say the day was awesome.

Congrats on 2nd AG and a nice mug to enjoy libations from!   3 laps on the bike does sound a bit mind-numbing, but great job out there just the same!

Congrats on the race!  I love the photo!

Maybe it's time to invest in a velcro timing chip strap, huh?

It had a velcro strap but it was weird - the way the strap went through the middle of the chip so there was still plastic exposed and against my skin. I should have taken a picture!

Lot's of companies make them.  I just grabbed the above link because it shows the chip in yellow so you can see it easily.

Knowing where the fluids are, how they will fit on your bike, how much to reach for, and when to reach for it should be understood prior to ever setting foot on the course.

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
