Pre-race routine:

I got into a car accident the night before the race. Nobody was hurt except for my car! ..the first thing I thought about was "can I still race tomorrow"... that shows where my mind is..
I was very shaken up and the back of my head, neck and shoulders were really stiff when I got up. I was in a crappy mood and pissed at myself for wrecking my car.
Event warmup:

found a spot for my daughter to volunteer..talked to BT'ers and some of my co workers who were volunteering.
Set up my t/a and made my way to the swim start.
My sister lives right off the course and she showed up before I got in the water and took my picture.
Swim
  • 29m 8s
  • 1408 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

I have been swimming a lot and usually feel good. Today I felt terrible.
Couldn't breathe for the first half of the course. I seriously questioned whether I could finish the swim. I even stood up in a shallow area to collect myself.
The second half I managed to get my breathing down and felt better. Not my best swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not get in an accident the night before!
Warm up before the swim start!
Transition 1
  • 04m 3s
Comments:

I am trying to work on my t times which are always too long. This was ok considering it was semi-long run from the water to the t area.
What would you do differently?:

move faster
Bike
  • 1h 24m 32s
  • 25.4 miles
  • 18.03 mile/hr
Comments:

My best bike time. One women kept passing me...squeek right front of me leaving about 4 feet and then stop pedalling and coast. So I would then have no choice but to pass her...leaving plenty of room when I pulled in front of her. Then she would do it again...at least 4 times! I was getting pissed. If you want to freakin' rest stay behind me b!tch!! It was just rude!
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 02m 48s
Comments:

wasted time tying my shoes...its gotta be done though
What would you do differently?:

get speed laces for my shoes
Run
  • 1h 05m 14s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm happy with the run. It was much better than Mooseman. I stopped only to drink at the water stations which were plentiful!
Passed by tons of people including Laura.
What would you do differently?:

Work on my run speed this year.
Post race
Warm down:

Three of my co-workers were at the finish line cheering. That was awesome!
The orange slices tasted like nectar of the gods!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am happy with my performance. This is my second season, so everything I do this year is waaaay better that last year.

Event comments:

This was a fun BT event with lots of familiar faces and food. It was great seeing everyone. Thanks to Sue's parents who let me change in their motor home...I was freezing!
I didn't have a chance to make the dish I was supposed to bring due to my accident the night before...sorry. Thanks to whoever made the oatmeal and the chocolate cookies. They were yummy!

wow, I didn't realize you had some trauma the night before.  That sucks.  You had an amazing race, considering.  Hell, it would have been an amazing performance even if you hadn't had an accident the night before!

I hope you're not too sore today.  And I meant what I said yesterday, I owe this season to you

I'm glad you're ok after the accident.  You had some great bike splits.

Seems that laura passed everyone

Glad to hear you're OK after the accident.  Cars can be replaced, but bikes....well that's another story!  Nice splits too.  Wow everyone I hang out with is getting faster!  We need more slow people in the group!

Boo for car accidents! Hoorah for great races!

You were a speed demon on the bike, and finished the swim strong after a hectic start, and that run split is awesome as well. If you improved so much this year, just imagine how much more you can improve next year!

Patty....great race!

Very bad way to get ready for a race...but so glad you were okay that is the main thing.

Your training this year really shows...rocking bike split, wow so much faster on the run than Mooseman, and the swim you did good at recollecting yourself after a rough start.

Thank you for training with me for this race! How many times did we ride the old bike course and do a short run? Swimming in the Pond the week before helped me as well...sorry to slow you down to pace with me. It made it feel comfortable and I think we both race better that way!

I can't wait to see what you can do next year Patty!

I'm very proud of all you have accomplished & your dedication training smart...and you are so fun to train and hang out with!

Congrats!

Patty- It's been great following your training & racing- and enjoyed meeting up with you again- April was a LONG time ago!!! Glad you were able to stay & visit a bit post race.Impressed you were able to stay focused & race after an accident the night before- and altho you were disappointed with your swim you managed to overcome & still have a decent time-wow! Your bike was great - hmm- there must be a revenge for rude bikers...gel squirt? or worse? Hung in there for the run- and no mention of pain or feeling discouraged-at all- Overall- Nice Race!Great job...Congratulations!!!!

Good race! Sorry about the car - and the woman who was messing with you while passing. Sometimes those annoying people give you something to focus on during the race. Did you finally drop her during the bike ride?
