Subject: Update on the TeamGU "sponsorship" opportunity ..........
Going back to the thread a few weeks ago where a BT member had pointed out the TeamGU sponsorship opportunity I've got a follow up.

I have been "accepted" to race for TeamGU for the '07 season. What does that mean?? I get a huge discount for buying one of two "packages" that include a jersey, hat, socks, water bottles, Gu gels, Gu2O, and other things. Depending on which package I'd purchase I get more or less stuff. It's really a great deal since even with the $99 package you get 2 cases of 48 gels, and 2 big buckets of Gu2O. That's more than the price of entry in the first place pretty much, not too mention the other stuff. And when you provide a photo of yourself racing in the Gu get up you get points which can be used for more free schwag (100 points for an IM, 70.3, or XTERRA race and 50 for each Oly. or Sprint). Max. is 300 points a year. I have a 70.3 and IM on the calender already, so can easily max. out the points. To give you an idea, 300 points would get me 6 cases of 48 gels ...... well more than I'd use in a year!! I'll take it!

Here are the packages:

Package A -$99

TeamGU Tri top
TeamGU Tech. Tee
TeamGU running hat
2 pairs of Gu socks
2 cases of 48 Gu gels
2 cannisters of Gu2O
4 water bottles
Gu/Gu2O decals
1 Gu Sports pro deal offer for '07

Package B - $189

TeamGU Tri top
TeamGu Tri shorts
TeamGU Tech. Tee
TeamGU running hat
Gu bike mount (think Bento box)
Gu waist- pak (think Fuel Belt)
3 Gu flasks
2 pairs of Gu socks
4 cases of 48 Gu gels
4 cannisters of Gu2O
8 water bottles
Gu/Gu2O decals
Quarterly pro deal offers for '07

I'm not sure what the "pro deal offers" are, but I'm guessing a huge reduced price purchase opportunity. With the points you can earn from racing I would have more than enough Gu/Gu2O to last me the entire season easily. I know I've spent more than $200 in gels and energy drinks (probably closer to the $500 range) this year, so it's a bargain in my opinion!

I think there is still time to get in if your interested. Search for that thread or check out Triathlete mag. for info.

Which package are you selecting? I was going to go with the lower one but then the $189 looks like it really might last me a "year."

I'm pretty sure I'll go with the "B" package as that will cover all the goodies I might need for the year for tris and cycling.

The funny thing is ..... I sent in my "application" for Team Clif Bar as well for running (only thing they had opened left), but may have got it in a day late so we'll see. That might be an outright sponsorship, or a "pro deal" like this one. Little bit of a conflict of interest there ....

Even if they were for both triathons, you could wear the GU for the bike, and Cliff for the run...just a alonger transition time at t2. And still give them both some "air" time But really, thanks for the sample resume before and hopefully, we'll get some more BT teammates. I think i'm going with the 2nd plan too. It just seems more worth it.

As previously posted, I sent in my resume' this morning.  I tried to pitch the idea of Gu recognizing and supporting the weight class athlete; a growing trend in our sport.  We'll see.

This sounds great, congrats on your acceptance. I would go for the larger package. I think I am going to apply for this also. I really like their products and would love to be part of this. Any suggestions

Write a cover letter, include a "racing" resume and send it in. They said limited to 500 peaople, but not sure how that is actually going to work. They might offer more or first come first served. :shrugs:

Good luck with it! It's definitely worth it imho.

Hey Rick,
If you didn't see this yet. There's a "Stash your trash" program with GU after we use up all of our GU packages since we'd have used up so many in the b package. Might be a pain but probably no more than separating your recycles and trash. More free swag!!!

Gu should be gettting my resume today, so hopefully Im not too late!

Hey, just checking in....another TeamGU-mate here! Yes! I was "accepted" for the TeamGU 2007 too. Just got the letter this morning.

After reading this thread, or auto's thread, and seeing the TeamGU ad in one of my local CitySports magazines--and seeing that the deadling was sometime in December--I figured what the heck. I'd give it a shot for the cost of a postage stamp.

For those interested, I sent in a short bio, my training regimen (highlighting my improvement), a link to my beginnertriathlete.com log, recent US Half-Marathon results, and planned races for 2007.

BTW, I mailed in my application on 11/20. And my "acceptance" letter is post-marked 11/21. Wow! That's a fast turnaround!

Hey guys,

Thanks!  No, I don't know which "package" ("A" $99, or "B" $189) yet; but I'm leaning towards "B".  Lookin' forward to see your guy's pics in your TeamGU gear!

Sorry runnerx. I also did a search once I got the acceptance letter but no luck either with the site or google. I guess eventually, they'll send some sort of catalogue or something. I'm guessing some of the higher point values are clothing.

I honestly am guessing it's first come first serve, as long as they have space (Which they said on the site that it's limited to 500) since it's the pilot year. If it's sucessful, i'm guessing they may filter out people next year.

I'd be curious if anyone that's rejected to post it so we know.
