How high I can count by odd numbers, prime numbers, in thirds, fifths and sevenths. I will sometimes do roman numerals. Oh my god - that would drive me nuts! I don't think I'm smart enough for that - it would take too much concentration. And how do oyu count in roman numerals in your head? Just imagine what they look like? lol I say it in my head. I, II, III (like eye, eye eye, eye eye eye), IV (eye V) etc... Yea I know it is stupid but so is running 29 miles, so what you gonna do Heh.....A comedian does a song about the 18 wheels on a big rig, and counts the wheels in Roman numerals by doing that. |

I've been accused of being a freak for doing division and multiplication in my head when I'm board... especially if I'm in an auditorium with rows of seats.... time to count, divide.... |

Extreme Veteran 351 Seattle | Subject: RE: What do you think of on long runs? ... but when I run it's mostly about people, plans, conversations that I wish had gone differently. I sometimes pray, especially if it's particularly beautiful out ("thank you" )... or if I'm worried ("please help" ). If it's a painful run I just try to maintain good form and try for the next corner, next light post, etc.

I also probably couldn't get past fifty so my runs would have to be really short. And 29 miles is crazy - my long runs are like 6 or 7 with a goal of 13.1! |

When I run or bike I can enter into the deepest thought about life, work, relationships then see a squirrel and jump to wondering what life must be like for squirrels. Or I see a sign and wonder how much is costs to make a stop sign and how many stop signs there are in the state. The oddest thing I have done on a run was to pick up a flyer at a house for sale and then try to calculate what my mortage would be on the house. ~It seems to pass the time |

Champion 6539 South Jersey | Subject: RE: What do you think of on long runs? I have no clue as to what I think about! I don't run with music either. There's definitely a lot of stuff going through my head, but I usually forget about it once the run ends. I usually have to make a pit stop or two on a run, and I find myself often saying, "Hm. Should I go now? Can I hold it a little longer? Will anyone see me if I go here?" Those are the only thoughts that I can ever actually remember thinking, though. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: What do you think of on long runs? Let me caveat this by saying my runs are not yet classified as "long." But I usually have some stupid rap song in my head, it's so annoying. If I'm running around the track in the gym, I have to say the lap number I'm on every other step so I don't forget. Yup, it's just "1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1.... 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2..... 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3" If I'm really getting funky, I'll mix the rap song with the lap numbers. |

What fears stand in my way and what I'm doing about them. Some of that conversational stuff that Whizzzzz mentioned...playing out conversations in my head to put things in perspective.
Ditto that...get out of my head! I also like to visualize races. Edited by NightOwl 2006-12-05 12:19 AM |

If you want to know how it will feel like during an Ironman, throw yourself to the pavement every 2 miles or so and then keep going. :P Just kidding...I played through my IM race too many times before and still do it now. I still get misty eyed when I think about it....like now. |
