Thanks to all who posted on this thread. I am showing this to my wife so she understands I am not the only one who gets teary eyed at an ironman broadcast.

I feel like I just found a support group or something....

I was all kinds of teary sitting here in front of my computer watching the IMFL finishers ... and posting with others doing the same! I cheered when the BT'ers finished ... and was especially teary when IFD finished ... GO SUE!

My name is Robin and I cry when I watch Ironman races.

I'd have to say that I think this was the best IM WC coverage that NBC has done, especially the first hour.  Although we've all seen coverage of the Hoyts through the year's, I think the segment they did on them this year was awesome.  Got a kick out of the people describing the swim, especially "Sister 76 year old".  Also enjoyed the soldier's description of triathletes.  I could have done without the "President of the Marlins baseball team" guy and the firefighter woman - not much value added there imo. The Blazeman stuff was a tear jerker.

There was some sniffing and snuffling at my house, too. The Hoyts do it to me every time. And now there's a younger brother Hoyt!

I think they did a particularly good job of expressing the difficulty of the mass-start swim this year. The edited-together comments of the age groupers describing the washing machine really brought it home, in my opinion.

I actually think this is a big part of what the 1-hour "Versus" coverage of triathlons lack -- they are not really able to establish the visceral exertion or physical exhaustion of the event.

Most people who know me would say that I am a tough nut to crack. Especially my wife. Maybe it is because I grew up in Brooklyn or that I am headstrong or both, not sure. I can say that I rarely if ever show emotion regarding tragedy or triumph. BUT, having watched one of Hoyt videos posted on the net and today the IMWC coverage - NOW I know why I love this sport. The spirit of human endurance has to be thee most wonderful attributes with which humankind has been endowed. If anyone who watched the coverage this year did not get choked up or shed a tear, then they are not human. Blaise and Hoyt stories should really be told more often outside of this sport. And to think most of us spend our time worrying about PRs (yes, I am guilty too), we should instead kiss the ground we run on and be thankful that we can swim bike and run!

does anyone else besides me get teary not just at the hoyt's but at all of this? the sheer joy you know they're all feeling xing the finish line...how long and hard it was to get there...not the pros so much as the AG's... :'-(

.....just wanted to tell you that i'm right there with you on getting teary watching everyone finish. it is nice to hear that you can see the joy that people have in the finish line. i was blessed to cross the finish line in kona this year and it was even better than what we saw on tv!!!!!!! glad you watched the race coverage.

Makes me realize once again there are a million reasons to train and race and not too many good ones (injury/illness etc are good ones) not to.  And those of us who are healthy and lucky enough to race can help those who are not.  Pick a disease.  Raise money for research.  Cancer, ALS, cystic fibrosis whatever.  Unfortunately there are far too many to choose from.

I had thought that the '04 IMWC was the best one, but this year blows that one away.

The race coverage and the human interest stories were both awesome.

I loved the shots of the Michellie on the bike, it really showed how fast the pros go. The swim from the age grouper's perspective was great. The editors really showed how hard the pros suffer to win. Two words... Macca drooling.

You can never show too much Desiree Ficker Was she ripped or what!

I thought that Major Rozelle wasn't going to be on the show b/c he wsn't introduced in the beginning but I was so happy to see his story covered. The way he turned his life around is very inspirational.

I loved Sister Madonna saying that she was getting annoyed with a man who kept nudging her during the swim and that she thought "I could easily rip off your goggles right now... but then it was as if he heard me because I never saw him again". That was classic. I hope at age 78, I have as much spunk as her.

I was so sad to see how much John Blaise's ALS has progressed since last year. To be honest, I thought John's roll across the finish line last year was a little over the top, but to hear him explain that his goal was to finish the Ironman "even if thay have to roll me over the finish line" help me understand what he was doing. To see not just one, but three finishers doing the "blaise roll" was just so heart warming.

Dick and Rick Hoyt will always be heroes.

How many triathletes get hit by cars? I did last year when a driver swerved into the bike lane. I am so lucky that I wasn't seriously hurt and I always wonder what would I do if I was to lose a limb or be paralyzed. To see that woman disABLEd competitor, the ex-professional cyclist, not make the cut-off was so telling as to how much harder it is for the challenged athletes.

I'll have to agree that the segments with the Florida Marlins President, Willie Nelson's manager and the female firefighter were less than spectacular but I think NBC was really trying to show
the diversity of the Ironmen and that literally anyone who puts their mind and heart into doing it can be an Ironman.

I can't wait for this one to go on DVD because I'm definitely buying it!

Not only did my eyes well up during the Hoyt segment, while I was in that vulnerable condition I also welled up at the freakin' Ford commercial where the kid playing football wishes his family could watch him and they're actually pulling into the stadium parking lot.

Same, I don't know how I missed it but I did. Anyone know when a replay will happen or anyone have a digital copy? Youtube ?

Art (Shaved_Wookie) always tapes it and provides it via dl. Just give him a couple of days for him to edit it, he'll make it avail.

I have it on my DVR, but I don't know how to get it off there to make a copy. if anyone can explain this, I'll be happy to make copies.

This is a hard thing to watch. I was there, right in the middle of it all during the race, but I didn't know the profiles of many of the people, and the emotions run so high with everything people have to overcome to compete and/or finish.

Does your DVR have a firewire hookup?

I made a note to myself to tape it and totally forgot! I REALLY want to see the coverage. I will keep checking back, hoping someone posts a way to watch it.

i got to see it and was really moved by all the triathletes that have to over come other obsticals other than the course. the one thing that still puzzles me is what is ALS and what does it do to your body. other than that the race was great this is the first one i have ever seen and i will be watching more.
