How often do you take a day off? Once a week? Every 5th day?

I often feel like I had a day off if I take a nice long easy swim. Does anyone else do this? Is there a general rule or do you just listen to your body?

When everything is clicking and running smooth, I'll take only 1 day off a week.  That said, you MUST listen to your body.  You can very easily run your body in the ground, especially if you're not paying attention to fatigue, lack of sleep, etc.  Today is my 4th day off in a row and I know I'm going to come back strong tomorrow, having rested up very well, caught up on sleep, etc.

Whenever I need one, which is usually every 16 to 21 days. I do have one or two unload (easy) days every week... for most of the athletes I coach I schedule one day off a week more as a mental rest and/or a day they can have for personal life priorities and not necessarily because they need it.

Well my coach, doesn't believe in rest days. He sees swim days as rest days.

I have *harrassed* him into giving me one rest day a week. This typically means that I have to a swim/run on the same day, for me to get this rest day.

If you look at my training logs, you will see that I have taken 1-2 days off a week. Yea, I'm a bad girl and I take days off when I shouldn't. OOPPSS!

Although, for the next month, I will be following my training plan perfectly... to get ready for my Oly.

One day a week. Often it's "active recovery," with yoga or volleyball or something. But sometimes I'll lighten up a training day if I'm feeling a bit run-down (I did this yesterday). Best practice is to listen to your body.

Whenever I feel like I need a day off which is around once a month or so. But I do 2 easy days, 3 moderate days and 2 hard days. Hard-moderate-easy-moderate-hard-moderate-easy

But I do listen to my body and if I need a day off followed by a easy day I'll take it. If I need to really back off for a week, I do. I know that taking a week off compared to pushing through some light pains is better.

Once a week is generally good for me. But more as the body demands them.

And rest days for me generally include yardwork and walking.

Often.  I'll take a day off if the weather sucks or if I have other things to do.  I just took Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  I am re-organizing my training schedule to do 5 days of training in a row, Monday to Friday, which will leave me the weekend to do other work.

Define "off" day.  For some people, an off day is an easy day or only one activity.  For others, it's completely off, no structured exercise.

I alternate 1 day totally off with 1 day active recovery (easy swim, hiking, etc.) every week, so that I have one totally off day every 2 weeks.

My days off are 100% dependant on what my body says and what life says. Yesterday I was sore from football so I took a day off. This week I have to take friday off due to traveling. It gebrally works out I take 1 day off a week. It works for me.

Usually 1 rest day a week, since the bike trainer purchase. More before that.

If I am healthy and everything is in synch, one day of no training. BUT, with that said, things haven't been quite in synch for a while. I have just had the last 3 days off due to illness, and before that, I was taking 2-3 days off due to lack of sleep and/or family obligations. I am very careful about listening to my body since I am a poor sleeper and don't get a lot of good recouperative rest at night.

By plan, one day week.  With a wife and kids and a household to maintain, it often turns in to an "active rest day"--doing yardwork, moving furniture, doing sports with the kids.

I find that I usually average one unplanned rest day each month (by listening to my body).

I had to take more when I was first ramping up to five two-a-days per week, but I think now I'm adjusted.

Also, every 4th or 5th week, I incorporate a Recovery Week--meaning half-volumes or less for the entire week.

When life gets in the way. It's not uncommon for me to go 6-8 weeks without a day off, but I do schedule "active recovery" days on a regular basis.

I typically don't schedule one but they do occur once in a while when that crazy thing called life gets in the way. Usually try for active recovery days instead.
