Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say thank you all for your kind words and prayers.

The initial shock is over (I think), and I'm trying to get back into a regular routine.

After 2 days having having my world turned upside down, things are calming down a bit.
Some of my additional tests have been negative so far, so some of the concerns have been eliminated. Thats the good news. The bad news is some of my symptoms and pain are not explained yet.

One step at a time...

I'm having surgery on 6/7/07. There will be more results available afterwards which will be the best indicator if the cancer is minor or major.

One step at a time...

In the meanwhile, I am going to do some very light swimming and stretching and just staying loose/relaxed.

I'll post an update when I know more.

Danny

I was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2003. I know that the hardest part was in the beginning when there was so much uncertainty as to what was actually wrong. What stage was I, etc. My husband was surprised that I seemed relieved to finally get labelled a "stage 3". He didn't think that sounded so good. I thought: now we know, let's start the treatment.

During my year of chemo, I did whatever made me feel better. Not to much swim, bike, run. I enjoyed easy rollerblading through the park, strolling with the kids, sometimes just picking weeds out of the garden.

2 weeks after I finished chemo, I got a new bike. Then I decided I wanted more than the sprint races and moved on to 1/2 IM. Last year I was a DNF at IMCda (unrelated to my cancer). This year I'll be back at Cda and WILL be an ironman.

SO WILL YOU!!

Concentrate on your health and family. The training will come back when you're ready.

Alicia

Danny,

This is my first visit to the health section and I am shocked to say the least about what I just read. My goodness, I remember a few months back reading about the issues you were having and then we pm'ed a few times as I was trying to "be there" for you. I am so sorry. Words cannot express the wave of emotion that has just come over me. However, this much I can promise you.....I will be there for you EVERY step of the way. I will keep you in my prayers and thoughts and ask for my friends and family to pray for you. Please reach out to me for anything you should need! God bless Danny, I will be thinking about you and praying for you!

The surgery went well yesterday.  They were able to finish pretty quickly, and the surgeon said it looked like everything he removed was limited to the bladder inner surface (had not penetrated).  We're still waiting for lab results on what they removed, but so far it has all been good news.  I plan to rest up and watch movies all weekend with the family...

Thanks for all of your prayers.  I was totally overwhelmed by all of the encouraging emails, calls and cards from everyone.  It gave me a lot of extra comfort knowing that people were praying me through the day.

I got some good news from the doctor regarding the bladder cancer.  My lab results (from the bladder tumors they removed) indicated that it was malignant, but it was a low level of aggression form of cells, and it was of the very slow growing, non-invasive type.  As a result they think they got all of it, and it has not spread.

No chemo, just re-check every 3 months to monitor.

I'm pretty happy about the prognosis.  Of course, I'll remain a little guarded about this and want to watch it closely, but things are looking pretty good for now.

Thanks for the prayers.  It has really been helping.

The doctor said I could start slowly exercising again this weekend and see how it all feels.  I have to convince Marcy (wife) that I'm not pushing it....
I'm in the process of trying to strategize my return to the race circuit.  I don't think I have lost that much ground in the last month but feel like I am starting over...

I'm bummed I'll miss IM CDA, but there are other races...

I am just seeing this now for the first time... I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis... but I'm HAPPY that it seems as though it's not as bad as it could have been. How grateful you must feel!

Hope your recovery is coming along nicely... We look forward to seeing you back on the race course as soon as it makes sense for you. Until then... REST! RELAX! Read Performance Bike catalogs! Just don't order too much stuff!

We're all thinking about you.

And here's to a speedy recovery... and hopefully an IM in your future.
