Got it.  For traffic reasons, will be avoiding downtown on Sunday   Well, if you can make it to the park at 1:30 we will start out.  I am arguing with my friend whether we will swim or run first, but that's when we are meeting anyway.   My preference would be do a "real" swim first, bike the course, and then cool off with a second dip.  Since I'll be wearing my race suit, I am all about getting in the lake whenever I can.  I'll keep an eye out for ya.  Hope your car gets fixed quickly, Quiana, I know what a pain that can be!

Hah!  Not if you're me.  Although, I would like to get the big swim over with finally.

Say, does anyone know if Lake George has ever warmed enough to not allow wet suits?  This is my fear!  Please tell me no.

Don't know the history.  Maybe some of the veterans around here know.  Wetsuits were allowable last year, but I didn't have one last year.  Water was fairly shallow.  You could wade out quite a bit.  I would guess that the deepest part of the swim was maybe 12 ft, if that...

I swam in Lake George last Sunday. The water was fairly warm and weedy! Yuck! Had to pull of a small leech after the swim. I was hoping for less weeds. It was hard for me to focus on any sort of stroke when I was pulling weeds. Just be prepared for that. I'm praying for a day with little to no wind. It has been such a windy spring! This will be my first tri so cooperative weather conditions would make it even a better experience espcially since the whole family will be there including my parents.

Just 8 more days!

I remember it being quite shallow - I could stand up at almost any time - which is going to make the weeds really bad. Yuck!

Just think of it like a gentle massage.  Or like going through the car wash.

ick...weeds and leeches. Hopefully all the leeches will be gone by the time the novice women go through :-) Maybe the pink swim caps that my heat gets to wear will scare them off!

I am in the last wave. I haven't decided if that's better for the weeds or they'll be floating around like ropes. Hopefully all of you can push them out of the way by the time I get started. We stood a lot in deeper water while getting some advice from Dave Cameron so I'm sure the leech found me there.

Any good advice you'd like to post here? I couldn't make the open water swim clinic because I was in Washington DC :-)

Ok, most people who have swam with me know how I feel about weeds. GROSS. Ick. Disgusting. *shudder*

Waaaaah!

Ok, I'm pulling myself together now...

I have no real advice since this will be my very first tri. I do have a question though for everyone else. Dave Cameron had us dolphin in the water until we began swimming. I tried it at Calhoun the other day while my brother walked along side of me. It didn't seem much faster but I was a lot more tired. What does everyone else do? I know Lake George is shallow for quite a ways and we begin about knee deep.

Dolphining is usually only done 2-3 times in the shallows and is very tiring.  I did it at Manitou and it is a good way to get a little closer to the shore on the way in.  Running in knee deep water is very tiring, dolphining is also very tiring, just a little less.

I thought that I read somewhere that a person should swim until he or she scrapes bottom with the swim stroke. Apparently it is as fast as walking in the water and much less tiring.

I have never dolphined. I assume that it is the most efficient way to deal with knee deep water, but I don't think that I will try to pull something new out to the hat on race day. With my luck, I would end up with a snout full of sand.

This is what I do. I'm usually one of the very last ones to stand up, since I swim until I touch sand.

I have also never dolphined. My reasoning is that a) I'd probably screw it up and look like an idiot along with getting a nose full of water, and b) I'm not at the competitive level where the few seconds it might save me is worth the extra energy drain (versus continuing to swim).

Is there a standard BT meeting place up at Lake George? Looks like we are going to have a strong presence, but I still don't know most of y'all by sight, and would like to say hi! As usual, you can look for me sporting the obnoxious green Team Javelin kit.

What's the latest on swimmers' itch? Have we decided that lathering up exposed skin in DEET is the best defense?

Hey! New marketing idea: BodyGlide with DEET!
