OK, I'm starting to get into the whole Presidential election thing and thought this might be fun. I think we need more than the 2 (really 3) options so how about this?

Feel free to commit on why someone might be the best!

Ron--he gets done what he says he will; he's headed a diverse community and kept it a "happy place"; the BT health plan rocks; he'll motivate everyone to bike or run, leading to energy independency; and the BT shirts look good!

Me!  "If elected, I promise to lower entry fees, support trail-expansion for running and biking without altering the environment, and greater coverage of triathlons on TV!"

Oh yeah, and I'd handle these issues with Foreign Policy, Military Expenditures, taxes, health care, and making sure there's enough money in SS for when we retire from racing...

I'd back down for Kim to be pres!  But I should at least get a cabinet post...    The inauguration party would be awesome!

Sure, I'll run! Who's going to finance me?

I actually would love to get into politics at a state or local level. But I'm a) too poor, b) not charismatic enough c) a Blue-bird in a Red state. :-P

What about Arnold, okay so he's not eligble but where are all the real proven leaders? Kerry = career politician/lawyer Bush = rich kid common' these guys are a dime a dozen. I've watched the debates, visited all the web sites, and really I'm just left with more questions than answers...It's a lot of talk but I'm curious if Kerry can walk the walk or if Bush can make something great come out of Iraq besides oil. I just dont know...
I have concerns about both but normally I trend towards small government and conservitism...any thoughts?

Homer is a straight talker with proven government experience (garbage comissioner, union rep and mayor of New Springfield) and knows how to get the job done. And he wont be a slave to special interests except for the donut lobby which really benefits us all anyway.

"What about Arnold, okay so he's not eligble"

That's the only reason I didn't put Arnold on the original list. I'd vote for him as President! I did for Governor.

One thing to remember, almost all politicians who make it to such a high level in Washington are tricky, slimey, and very slick talkers!

I just finished a long winded lively (to say the least!) discussion with several people in my office... and suffice it to say.. I'm a red bird in a blue office. **SIGH**

NOT willing to get into it again... sorry.

Where to start? I’m a somewhat strong supporter of one of the candidates, but I don't want to convince you to vote for someone just because I said so. You need to come to your own conclusion. So I will try to keep my comments as brief and non-partisan as possible and still try to give you some thoughts that will hopefully help you make your decision.

First of all, the debates are not very useful in my opinion. Are you really going to vote for someone just because they were more eloquent in expressing their views during a debate? What if his views do not correspond to yours? And if I have to wait until three weeks before an election to find out what a candidate’s position is on an issue, he doesn’t deserve my vote.

You always have to remember that most (if not all) candidates for national office try to play toward the middle ground, meaning that Kerry is trying to appear more “conservative” than he is, and Bush is trying to appear more “liberal” than he is. This is especially true in a televised debate just before the election. But when you cut through all of the political crap on both sides and look the candidate’s records, I think you will find that they have opposing views on many of the issues. There are several websites that list their positions on the issues. One of them is http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5993610/. If you look at their positions, you will see on most issues that one of them says this, the other says that. Your job is to decide what YOU believe and select the candidate whose positions are closest to your own.

Hope this helps.

I'm so pissed. Someone mangled my political yardsign last night! Why in the world would you do something like that?! Oh well, I guess that I'll just have to go get a new sign!

On a happier note, I can't imagine anyone over the age of 30 doing that (unless they're nutso), so it's good to see that young people are politically motivated this season (though I wish they'd do it OFF my property!)

I've often had the devious thought of mutilating a sign for any politico that I feel is a goober, but then I'd have to destroy EVERY sign.  *sigh*  So much to do, so little time...

Yup, but that pisses me off equally with garage sale signs. MORE in fact, because it seems like EVERY time I try to go garage saleing, I follow signs to at least 5 different houses that had their garage sales weeks ago and neglected to take down their signs!!!!

And re: wanting to maim other's signs. I feel that way too sometimes. In fact, this morning I walked by a truck with a sticker for one of my favorite beers and another for my least favorite candidate. I wanted to rip off the candidate's sticker because I felt it was defaming my beer!!!! LOL! Ah, yes... logic. But that's one of those weird things you think about doing, but would never actually do!

Or if I were to stoop to that level, I'd do it in a more clever way than just slashing the sign. I'd replace it with a sign for my candidate.....

Sounds good to me Laura...I've seen candidates with a lot fewer qualifications than that.  So do I just write "Whizzer" on the ballot?
