Pretty much anything by 2 Live Crew will do.

Only joking. Ours was `She' by Elvis Costello.

I would recommend using the Imperial March from Star Wars for the walk down the aisle.

For a wedding song, go with something classic.  You don't want to end up like a lot of people in the 80s going 'Why the hell did we pick Rick Astley for our wedding?'

Maybe something with a long music intro with a lot of drums or sounds like they are stomping and maybe even some mandolin (or it should at least sound like it) with the the music having a Spanish feel to it... I can't think of a specific name for the song or the artist but I hope that helps.

Ok, I read the lyrics for all the songs and I voted for Sting's song. I liked these lines:

You fill my eager heart with
Such desire
Every kiss you give
Sets my soul on fire
I give myself in sweet surrender
My one and only love

The other songs, while romantic, speak too much of being in darkness or lost and relying on the other to bring light/rescue. It's romantic to think of your other as your savior/rescuer but at least Sting gets it right by saying that joining to another person is more of a surrender than a rescue - though it emphasizes desire/passion and that ain't what's gonna get you through the tough spots.

However, I think Tracy Chapman has a great song for the occassion, called Wedding Song. Don't let the title fool you.

I've been having dreams and visions
In them you are always standing
Right beside me
I reach out for your hand
To see your arms extending
outstretched towards me

For you I don the veil
By your light
Others pale by comparison
I place my faith in love
My fate in this communion

I've been having dreams and visions
In them you are always standing
Right beside me
I reach out for your hand
To see your arms extending
Outstretched towards me

To you I give my pledge
I honor all that's good
In this life we're living
To think not only of myself
But of the greater union

Can I get a witness
There is salvation and rapture for the lonely
Can I get a witness
Bless this day sacred and holy
Sacred and Holy

I've been having dreams and visions
In them you are always standing
Right beside me
I reach out for your hand
To see your arms extending
Outstretched towards me

With you I am revealed
All my shame all my faults and virtues
Behold body mind and spirit
Heart and soul devoted all to you

Can I get a witness
Bless this day sacred and holy
Sacred and Holy

IN MY LIFE (THE BEATLES)

There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends
I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
there is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

**SIGH** Bette Midler also has a good version of this song... probably more suitable for a wedding....a bit more melodic. I love the lyrics.

Well there's that song that starts with some drums and an acoustic guitar. No wait, it was a piano. I think... The song is from the mid-90's... or maybe early 70's, I'm not sure. And it wasn't really on the radio much but it was on that mix tape my friend Bill made for me. Or maybe it was the mix tape Rita gave me...

Anyway, you know the song I mean. You should use that one.

The most romantic lyrics I can think of right now... of course it might have something to do with living in the frigid North. The last line gets me every time.

Winter's Song, by the Cowboy Junkies

She says, 'it's cold where you brought me'
He says, 'Darling, don't worry
you can stay in my arms
until the springtime comes
We'll let the snow drift around us
and wait for the robin and the crocus
to tell us that our love has again found the sun'

Lone oak stands tall,
bare arms scratch the sky,
dry leaves cracking beneath our feet
Hand in hand we've watched
the autumn fires burn -
Summer's dreams collapsing,
chestnuts in need of gathering,
the whole world lies rotting in the street

Soon we will walk with collars high
like ramparts raised for the siege
We'll bow to her beauty,
cower from her fury
sent as a judgement for a slight
long past forgotten
Winter's love once again unrequited
Winter's love once again unrequited

She says, 'Babe are you sleeping?'
He says, 'No, wide awake and thinking
of a dream I just had about the two of us
He takes his hand to her cheek now,
his lips to her brow,
their whispers pile softly
by the foot of the bed

Or another one by them:

Hold On To Me

If you offered me a shade of blue
would I return it saying that it was too
dark or light?
Or would I see it for the precious thing
that it might one day be?
Hold on to me

If you offered me a point of view
would I dismiss it saying that it was too
black and white?
Or would I see it as the special thing
That it would no doubt be?
Hold on to me

I'll hold on to this gift we share
it is as slippery as it is rare
I'll hold on to that feeling
of waking and finding you there
I'll hold on to you and you hold on to me

If I asked you for a simple thing
Would you do it without too much thinking or fuss?
Would you see it for the precious thing
that it would surely be?
Hold on to me

Or even better... Anniversary Song

Have you ever seen a sight as beautiful
as that of the rain-soaked purple
of the white birch in spring?

Have you ever felt more fresh or wonderful
than on a warm fall night
under a Mackerel sky,
the smell of grapes on the wind?

Well I have known all these things
and the joys that they can bring
And I'll share them all for a cup of coffee
and to wear your ring

Have you ever had the pleasure of watching
a quiet winter's snow slowly gathering
like simple moments adding up?

Have you ever satisfied a gut feeling
to follow a dry dirt road that's beckoning you
to the heart of a shimmering summer's day?

Well I have known all these things
and the joys that they can bring
And I'll share them all for a cup of coffee
and to wear your ring

And I don't know how I survived those days
before I held your hand
Well I never thought that I would be the one
to admit that the moon and the sun
shine so much more brighter when
seen through two pairs of eyes than
when seen through just one

Have you ever seen a sight as beautiful
as a face in a crowd of people
that lights up just for you?

Have you ever felt more fresh or wonderful
as when you wake
by the side of that boy or girl
who has pledged their love to you?

Well I have known all these things
and the joys that they can bring
And now every morning there's a cup of coffee
and I wear your ring

Signing off as the unabashed romantic that I am!

Since no one else seems to be taking this very MAJOR decision seriously...

Here's my take:

I think you have to analyze this from 2 different persepctives. The first is the gravity of the song and what it says or imparts on your wedding. I think that you need to understand the words and have a feeling that the words accurately reflect and capture the way you feel when you think of your wife / husband / life partner / or for our Southern viewers - Cousin. I think the song needs to be an audio expression of the words in your heart, only the song says it better.

Now, I want you take this first persepctive. Wrap it up in a tiny little piece of paper. Jam that paper in an empty wine bottle. Place the cork on the bottle. Toss that bottle in a canister of gasoline and then toss the gasoline canister into a raging inferno.

The second perspective is length of song.

I've been married for almost 8 full years. I've heard my wedding song upwards of 16.4 million times since deciding on a song. That song is burned somewhere in the back of my brain. Assuming that you listen to your wedding song 1000 times over the course of your marriage and that song is 5 minutes long versus 3.5 minutes long - you have just lost 1500 minutes, approximately 25 hours that you can never get back.

Therefore, I recommend you pick the Sting song which looked to be 3:30, versus the Sade which was close to 5 minutes.

You're welcome.
