Pre-race routine:

ate a banana and a bagel with pb on my drive down to the race. I got there about 5:45am and hardly anyone was there, so I got a prime spot for my bike in the transition zone! Got my stuff out, and noticed I had 2 left running shoes. Freaked out a bit, but went back to my car and my right shoe was sitting there waiting for me!
Event warmup:

Got back to transition, had Penn Cycle check my tires, and then found Emily & Bob. Took some pics, potty break, quick jog through transition and it was time to go! Then I stood there with 800 other women, freezing for 20 minutes until they secured the bike course.

Comments:

It went great! I thought I had gone out too fast and was going to die, but I felt fine!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing :)
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

I took time to breathe, use my inhaler, and get my shoes & helmet on. I didn't get my foot stuck in my bike this time, although I did have a flashback to Minneman while getting in my pedals.
What would you do differently?:

I could've been a bit faster here.
Bike

Comments:

I'm pretty sure the course wasn't 22 miles, but need to confirm that with Emily!
What would you do differently?:

Train more hills
Transition 2
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

Almost forgot to take my helmet off - but I knew I could give it to Bob (Emily's husband) if I did. Saved myself an embarassing picture :)

Run

  • 2 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs were dead and I wasn't sure for part of it that I was going to make it, but then I saw Emily and knew I could make it :) I slowed down for a bit to catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for Emily to finish, took some pics, got a medal, signed up for a massage, ate some food, chatted with a lady from Colorado, got a massage on legs & upper traps, waited for awards. I won a spinervals dvd!

On my way back to my car, I saw someone who didn't fare so well - she was fine, but her bike was missing the front wheel, front spoke, 1 pedal, and 1 handlebar. Yikes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training more hills

Event comments:

Wow - this definitely is the best race ever - participants, volunteers, booths, massages, announcer, etc. It was awesome and it was a gorgeous day! It was great seeing Emily again, and wish I would've met the other BTers. Hopefully I'll meet them next time!

Course: Holy hill fest! The first hill & last hill were the hardest, but I was able to hit 36.7 mph on one of the downhills. The downhills were scary - I'd never gone that fast before. I played leapfrog with a group of people the entire way, while trying to pass those going a little slower. It was crazy!

Shush - we're not going to tell anyone about the course being a slight bit short...

Great job today, on the 2nd run especially!  And good job on the Spinervals DVD.   Now you have something to keep you busy all winter

Great race, Nora, especially on that 2nd run.  Sounds like some didn't fare quite as well with  broken bikes...glad you held on for the speed.  Once you get used to it, you'll like it a lot!

You actually ran the 2nd run leg faster than the first.  Great job out there yesterday, very impressive B.T. showing from all the ladies.

Great job Nora on the negative splits on the run!  You smoked!  That was also a great ride.  I was out with Kris riding yesterday and there was plenty of wind.  Pushing 19 mph is great!  I had to chuckle a bit over the two left shoes.  I've gotten to the club for a swim only to find out I didn't have my suit!  Fortunately you weathered that one fine.  Great job - see ya at Bryan's!

I cracked up about the 2 left shoes.  I've gotten to the gym and pulled out 2 left shoes before, but never at a race!

You did some awesome running!  And...uh...how does someone end up missing a pedal and handlebars?  Theft?

Great race!

Great Race! Doing this event that was my main concern was Suicide hill as we called it when we were kids (grew up 1/2 mile away from the venue). Especially when I saw all the construction zones I thought for sure someone will go down. Glad to hear no one did.It was a better ride on my bike now then when I was 12 ....the front wheel would a wobble!
Good Job!
