Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: Triathlon on The Biggest Loser Tuesday? I was going through the week setting my DVR for my favorite programs and I hit the "info" button to read about The Biggest Loser on Tuesday. The info says there will be a Triathlon challenge. It's on 7-9pm here (Mountain Time Zone) on NBC. |

Sadly I have to admit that I saw the last one....I thought that was pretty cool since so many people are using triathlon as a means to an end. I'd be curious to know what the distances were, but I'd guess a super sprint, prob in the 250/10/2 range. |

It's so inspiring to watch people work so hard to change their lives. As for the distance... I think even 240/10/2 is being generous. I looked more like 100/5/1. |

Extreme Veteran 357 Ft. Myers, Florida | Subject: RE: Triathlon on The Biggest Loser Tuesday? Tuesday nights for The Biggest Loser is the only time all week that my television gets turned on. Unless I have to do a trainer ride then I'll turn the news channel on. My family has a real history of obesity (father died at nearly 500 lbs, age 63). While these people have real issues that got them to where they are today, we cannot appreciate what it takes for them to turn their lives around. Anytime I'm at the gym or out running and I see a seriously overweight person with their body in motion and breaking a healthy sweat, I just want to stop and hug them. |

As a former overweight person myself I know that it is much easier just to bury yourself in food than to make the hard life changes. There is a fellow at my Y who I would guess is in the mid 300# range. But he is there every week on the treadmill doing the pool work outs. I always make sure to give him a nod and a smile (guys who don't know each other can't hug, its just not done). I am not much of a TV watcher, but I will have to check out TBL. Elite 2608 Denver, Colorado | Subject: RE: Triathlon on The Biggest Loser Tuesday? I watch it too, but lately it's gotten a bit annoying. They had a tri last season and it was something like a 50 or 100 m swim, a 6 mile bike, and 1.5 mile run. On a related but slightly different note, remember Ryan Benson, the guy who won the very first season? He's back to 300 lbs. I think he started the show at 330, so he's managed to keep 30 lbs. off. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Triathlon on The Biggest Loser Tuesday? That is so depressing how the first year winner won. The show I like but honestly what women who weighs 166 expects to lose 5 pounds in a week. Kae is amazing but I think it sets up regular folks like me and you to unrealistic weight loss ideas. Doing it fast isn't good for you. Could you work out 4-5 hours a day and eat 1200-1700 calories depending on your weight? I've lost about 95 in 4.5 years...yep that is incredible slow but I didn't play games with my weight and I see it as a lifestyle change not a diet. I'll be interested to see how the tri plays out. |

Expert 1202 Montana | Subject: RE: Triathlon on The Biggest Loser Tuesday? I love The Biggest Loser! I love it when the contestants discover how strong they are, and how capable of losing weight. I know how it is to feel hopeless and helpless about my weight. Yes, it is a bummer that some of them have gained it all back. How fast would I gain weight if I quit tri training? Can't wait to see this week's episode! |

Master 1888 Winder, GA | Subject: RE: Triathlon on The Biggest Loser Tuesday? Shoeless - 2007-11-12 12:16 AM How fast would I gain weight if I quit tri training? I'm not sure if this is a serious question or not but it depends on how much change you're had in your life since you started tri training. I've lost 30 lbs since last July and I thought it was mainly because of my training but then I realized all the lifestyle changes that come with tri training. I eat better when I'm training....I keep training because I like it and I continue to eat better because it affects my training when I don't. I can't eat like we used to, I feel awful for hours afterwards. I like the show too, my husband thinks I'm weird. Anyway, last season they did one also. It was short, something like 200/6/2. It seems really short for us but for those folks it seemed like the finish was unattainable and it was neat to see them finish and to have that sense of accomplishment. |

There is a guy in my neighborhood who is overweight, but who I see outside "running" all the time. His feet may be barely moving, but he is giving it all he's got and he is getting it done. He's doing more than a lot of people. I always smile or wave to him as I pass him. |

Right. But he didn't do it for the entire season. He only did it for 10 days before the final weigh in. I wanted to win so bad that the last ten days before the final weigh-in I didn't eat one piece of solid food! So, he did what a lot of people do... but he did it win some serious cash to put his family in a better position. Yes it was horrible... but he didn't do it for months on end. The weight he loss up until that point was done right... through diet and exericse. I find it very sad that he has gained just about all that weight back. |

Kathy, you make a really great point. For a "normal" person to lose weight like they did... isn't realistic. They workout for hours on end each day while on the show. Us normal folks do not have that kind of time. It's nice because the show shows people what CAN be done... so that's positive... but they need to add disclaimers so other people understand that losing 100 pounds in 3-4 months isn't the norm. |

Master 2571 Tiger's Den | Subject: RE: Triathlon on The Biggest Loser Tuesday? I love Biggest Loser- to me it's just motivating to see how much these people change their lives. It doesn't surprise me that one of the winners had put back almost all of his weight. Think about how many people lose weight on any program only to put it back on. I know I've had this happen to me. The only way for it not to happen is to stay with the changes you've made and not got back to your old habits. Very hard for some. BTW, While Bob is my favorite, I just have to say that Jillian rocks!!! |

Champion 5183 Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Triathlon on The Biggest Loser Tuesday? I loooove this show too, and I confess, I keep track of the competitors on their blog on ivillage. A lot of the workouts they show are my kinda workouts- lots of natural exercises, functional movement stuff. But Suzanne, you LIKE Jillian? I throw things at the TV when she starts in. She makes me insane. I heart Bob. If I were in charge, though, I'd make them dress more professionally, I can't stand the teenybopper tshirts and Bob's cargo shorts. One thing about the show that bugs me is that every contestant is so good looking, it almost seems like they pic the contestants based on how incredibly HOT they will be after weight loss! |

Cycling Guru 15134 Fulton, MD | Subject: RE: Triathlon on The Biggest Loser Tuesday? Hopefully it won't be like the tri they did on the Bachelor .... swim some laps in a 15 yard pool, ride an excercise bike for "x" distance and then run laps around the pool .... what a joke that was. But if I remember from other seasons, don't they have a real pool in their facility? At least a 25 yard one? The show is inspirational but depressing at the same time because from my understanding most of the people end up gaining all the weight back and more after the show is over. |

I like Jillian as well. I think deep down that she's a very genuine person who really cares about the people she trains. She lost a bunch of weight herself so she knows what everyone is going through. Sure she's tough, but these people need that. You don't get to be 300-400 lbs. by having self-discipline. BTW - Anyone else think Bob is gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that. I'm just sayin'. |
