  • Comments: I keep looking back thinking that I could have gone harder, but truth be told, I probably went as hard as I could have on that given day. I did improve from my previous Olympic distance by around 6 minutes and so that's something to consider. My goal for September is to bring another 6 minutes off of my swim, break 20 mph average on the bike and run under an hour on the 10k. I think this is doable if train correctly and consistently over the next three months

  • Comments: Given this was my first triathlon, I was excited. Hopefully I will improve but the run really hurt me and my confidence. I think I might try a sprint next.

  • Comments: The race organization and direction were horrible. The swim times posted a the expo were different from the email and from the ultimate announcement by over 30 minutes. Then, the race started 12 minutes late and progressed slower after that. I didn't start until a full 45 minutes after the announced time. Despite seeing the run course mile markers out at transition on Saturday, there wasn't a single marker on the course. I had to estimate my time and pace at the start of the second loop. That's just silly for a race this old and large. The race director really botched this one. I only was one motorcycle on the bike course the whole time. The congestion from having a four lap course was bordering on dangerous at times. There were riders all over the road and no one was getting to the right after passing or being passed. It was difficult not to draft at times because trying to go around people was unsafe. With transition closing a full 30 minutes before the race start and

  • Comments: Since I finished in the top 1/3 of my AG, I hit my goal of qualifying for the AG Nationals. Very good race and will probably do it again sometime. Two recommendations: 1. Have it marked better where you bike in to transition off of the course and 2. Have at least 1, probably 2 areas set up on the course for bike issues/repairs. PS Thanks to Jen who wrote up my RR as I dictated it to her on the drive back to Dallas. You are the BEST!

  • Comments: Items I disliked about this race: 1. Packet pickup was sheer chaos. Worst I have seen. No reason it should have gone so poorly. 2. The race started late. Don't know whay. 3. They then shifted all the wave spacing the morning of which further delayed everyone's start. I was a 7:48 and went off at 8:25. 4. A 6 mile loop with over 2000 racers seems ridiculously unsafe to me. So much for trying to referee this race. It was literally like riding in a rugby scrum. Constantly there were 4 bikes abreast going down the course. Not my style of course for triathlon at all. Give me some straight open roads! ;) It wasn't all bad. It was neat that it was downtown. There are LOTS of spectators which is nice. Swimming in Town Lake wasn't bad at all. Quite cool actually. My race performance sucked but that was my problem, not the race's fault. I think if they limited the number of particpants, and/or ran the Sprint on a different day, and came up with a better solution for packet pickup

  • Comments: Comparing the US Open to CapTex: Cut 5 1/2 min off of my swim time. Cut 4 1/2 min off of my bike time. Gained 7 1/2 min on my run. Gained 2:48 in transitions due to extended lentgth and incorporating the wetsuit and wearing socks. I couldn't get anymore wet if I would have jumped back in the river going through the transitions but overall hydration was good..the stomach felt full which hampered the run due to the water intake but my mind was telling me to take it in. Very mental race and I succumbed to what my mind was telling me and walked...too much. I wonder how much was left in the tank if I were to run the whole thing...could I have made it under 60 min? Could I have run the whole thing? Pretty happy with the first 2/3rds of the race. The run was a beast due to the heat. The hills weren't that bad; pretty happy with my training on the bike. Saw Birdie, Big Techs, and JJ on the run but couldn't catch any of them. Tough race overall definitely tougher than the half mary in Feb

  • Comments: race itself was great. 2nd biggest one i've ever been a part of and it's very cool. well organized. great course. very scenic with the capital building and going through the downtown of austin. i really liked it. would have been more enjoyable if i had a better race, but the race itself, course itself, was great.

  • Comments: Not a bad race considering how many freaking people there were and the fact that it's smack dab in the middle of the capital of Texas. I'm not a huge fan of a 4-loop bike course with almost 1300 athletes whizzing around, but it wasn't as bad as I suppose it could have been.

  • Comments: Racing is good regardless, and I had a great time. The bike course specifically, in my opinion needs to be revamped to accomadate the number of people that race. Making the bike course a little longer may help to spread people out (something like Austin Tri) less laps????? Overall though with the sheer number of people and the three different events this was a well run event.

  • Comments: Bad: 1) The packet pick-up was chaos. 2) The swim wave timing was a debacle. 3) The runs out of each transition area were way too long. 4) The amount of cyclists on the loops - specifically the speed differences between packs of riders - was bordering on insanity at times. Good: 1) Plenty of aid stations with plenty of ice. 2) Volunteers were very friendly. ...and that's about it. I don't blame these guys for last year's rain-out, they can't help that. But given that they were trying to basically make amends, the increased price, suggestion that we body mark ourselves, and the swim wave disorganization, I doubt I'll be coming back for a 3rd attempt. It just seems like a very poor way to try to improve an event.

  • Comments: This was my first big event (over a thousand participants), and it was really fun and exciting, and fairly well organized. Bike check-in the day before was great, and the registration process went smoothy (for me). And everything went well the day of, up until transition closed. I think there was some miscommunication about people being able to warm up in the water prior to the first wave going out, which delayed the lifeguards getting out on the water, which delayed the start by a solid 15 minutes. And then maybe some overzealous planning, thinking that a wave would go off every three minutes: It was more like five or six. So my wave went off VERY late. Which is a drag. The race itself--the courses, the volunteers, aid stations, events afterwards--was top notch, I thought. I had a great time. And would do it again. If it were 1000 miles north or held in September. It's hot in Austin!

  • Comments: My official time was 3:21:05. I really made some serious improvements on the swim/bike. I shaved 7 minutes on my swim alone! I was 2 mins faster on the bike, avg’d +19mph. Transition time was roughly the same…15secs slower and given that I introduced the wetsuit to the equation, I’m happy with that. Before the run, I had improved my time by 9mins. If I ran inline w/ my last run, I would’ve been right at 3:00. I’m definitely going to train up and try to break the 3hr mark in the fall. I’m buying new running shoes today. I am going to buy the ones that promise a faster than 12:00 mile pace. My pace yesterday was a miserable 12:46. I'm glad that I finished the race. I really need to lose more weight and improve my endurance before the Austin Triathlon in the fall.
