  • Comments: Basically the same total time as last year. A bit faster in swim & run, a bit slower in bike & T1. Mentally a PR would have been nice even if only by a couple seconds. But to be fair, this performance is probably indicative of the training I have been putting in. If I really want to start getting faster again, I need to step things up a notch. Total time: 2010: 2:01:30 2011: 1:44:56 2012: 1:45:04 I really love this event. It is a great course, and the site of my first ever tri, so I like to go back to see how I stack up. But it is sad to see the dwindling numbers - 1400 in 2010, 1000 last year, and only 850 this year. I think part of that is because CTA keeping jacking up the fees, and it is quite expensive for a sprint. I think they would do better lowering the fee and pulling more first-timers into the fold.

  • Comments: Love this race - it was my first. Especially loved seeing the handcycles out there, and it's not every race that fellow athletes have to stop to remove and adjust their legs. Hope the work with MedStar Rehab continues and that even more paratriathletes join us next year.

  • Comments: Another excellent event from Bob Vigorito's team, now in its second year. Attracts a wide range of triathletes, and certainly beginner-friendly. The course is no cake-walk, though. I agree with others that it's too bad that the turnout wasn't higher (just shy of 1000), as it was a stunning day, and a fine event. I guess it's unclear what niche this race fits into. It doesn't have the draw for seasoned triathletes that TriColumbia's big races have (Columbia Tri, Eagleman), and it's certainly on the tougher end of the scale relative to other sprint tris, with the 1000m swim, hilly bike course, and mean mile in the middle of the run. I plan to be back, though.

  • Comments: Never any complaints about a CTA race. They make the trains run on time, and it's always a quality experience. Also fun in that this is a tough course for a "sprint" so it's a great lead in for longer distance later in the year.

  • Comments: Was happy with this performance overall. I had secretly hoped to podium in my age group at this race based on looking at last year's times. And sure enough, if I had posted this time last year it would have been good enough for 4th in AG. But the field apparently got a lot faster this year. Oh well, I guess I shouldn't worry about things I can't control, but was still a bit disappointing. This was my first tri ever where I didn't feel like I was about to pass out at the end. This means that either: (1) I am finally getting the hang of this, or (2) I need to push harder on the run. Total time: 2010: 2:01:30 2011: 1:44:56 Well organized race, as usual.

  • Comments: Love this race - it was my 1st. Felt badly for the organizers that the registration numbers were so low, bc it was such a great day. Bummed my favorite tri buddies weren't racing, but having the club & teammates there was just awesome. I felt on top of the world - pretty cool when lumpy middle aged moms can make it on the podium!

  • Comments: The volunteers and fans were great. Lots of support from a lot of fans there supporting first time triathletes. Sprints are so much better than the other distances for this reason. IMHO.

  • Comments: This was a great experience and I learned a lot. Now I need to get back to training because I have along way to go before Nation's in Sept! I just found out I was number 7 of all the the first time men. The two people directly in front of me where the two guys in my age group that passed me at the end! I also ended up with the 3rd fastest bike split of all the first timer men! It's offical... I'm hooked!

  • Comments: I think it was awesome, but what do I have to compare it to? Seemed very well organized, though for the life of me didn't understand the logic of putting my AG in the 11th wave out of 14, or combining F45-49 with F20-24 (followed by M25-29 to boot!). Ice in the bra was HUGE factor in keeping as cool as I did on the run. Racing for a charity team was just the reality check I needed to keep it all in proper perspective, too.
