  • Comments: I would not recommend this race. I think it is overpriced compared to other options. Although the swag is very nice, there doesn't need to be so much of it and the price should be reduced. Aside from the weather, which could happen anywhere, I would not advertise one of the race highlights as "running through the zoo with the animals". I think that is totally misrepresenting the run course. Mile signs on both the bike and run course were totally inaccurate and I would rather they not even be put up if they are wrong. And, they were out of chicken when I went to get something to eat! Everyone doesn't finish in 5 hours, so save some food for the rest of us. On the other hand, the volunteers were very dedicated and very nice to have them cheering. Hector rode by me and told me to be safe. The police were mostly helpful with the traffic, although there were a few places they were confusing. The teddy bears for awards were a cute idea.

  • Comments: It was my first half and the end of my first season as a triathlete. I chose this race over the branded 70.3 Miami because of the timing and the good reviews from past participants. Was a good decision. Race organizers did a good job. Great volunteer team and awesome atmosphere. Will definitely come back next year. Maybe not for the 1/2 Iron as I'm probably going to do Ironman 70.3 Miami next year but for sure I'll sign up for the International.

  • Comments: this ended up being a good and fun race. I would say if you ben thinking of doing it , go for it you wont regret it. i missed this race in 09 because of deployment but really happy i made the choice while still in the desert to give it a go. even with no bike or much to train on i had fun and if im in the country next year when its race day i will be back

  • Comments: Not as impressed as I expected. For a "Best of" race, I thought there was a lot more that could be done. Expo was very minimal, I've seen better at local sprint/Oly tris. Again, no XXL shirts, so I have another race shirt that I can not wear. The "discounted admission" for the zoo was $1. So my family had to pay almost $40 bucks to see me run by once and then miss my finish. They also changed the run course without letting everyone know. My family went to where the map said we would pass, but the route through the zoo was different than marked. Post race food & beverage was very disappointing. Not sure I would recommend this race to others.

  • Comments: Multi-race always puts on a good race and this was no exception. It was nice that we had individually assigned spots for our bikes and there was plenty of room for all. There was plenty of stuff at the aid stations and tons of ice. Lots of volunteers all over and everyone was nice.

  • Comments: Mile markers would have been nice on the bike course. Had issue with Garmin for the first time and had no clue where I was. RD needs to pay extra and go with a company like Waste Management for the porta-potties. The low cost company used was obvious in their condition.

  • Comments: i'm local to miami area, and the attitude around most of miami is that people will pay to do stuff here just because it is miami. even some races have this attitude...yo can tell by the crappy food afterwards, lack of liquid/food during, minimal photographers taking crappy photos, etc. THIS race is NOT like that. the emails communication was GREAT! the volunteers well informed! bike aid stations fantastic last minute hand offs! a cop and volunteer at every road intersection. water stations on the run were unbeatable as well. the course is AWESOME. the time of year is perfect. this race is a MUST MUST MUST!!!

  • Comments: A really well organised race and thoroughly enjoyable for my first HIM. Couldn't fault the pre-race organisation on the Saturday - packet pickup, body marking was great as were all the freebies and race programme. The pre-race clinic was interesting but didn't contain any information pertinent to the course itself. Confirmed what I had read here on BT and elsewhere about nutrition. Race day - two minor gripes : not enough lighting around the porta-potties as mentioned and I would have preferred not as much rough trail running. But overall this is a great race (have heard about the tacks on the course but didn't see any evidence - trust the police will investigate and do something if only public naming and shaming as the Scottish police did when the same thing happened during the Etape Caledonia in 2009). The volunteers were just fantastic around the course (loads of them on the bike course along with South Miami's finest). Sorry again to the bike aid station girl and anyone

  • Comments: It was a very well run race and a great race overall. The weather was perfect. Water temp was great. Just a perfect day to suffer :) I will definitely do it again but just not next year. I have IMFL the preceding weekend so it will probably take a week just to walk again :)

  • Comments: Great event. Not thrilled with the overall time or ranking, but considering this was my first Half Iron, and my first Triathlon was in June 2009 I am extremely happy overall. More training and more races next year - I am addicted!

  • Comments: This race is fun and only 1/2 in South Florida so they get a good crowd as ussual. Next year will be tougher with Ironman 70.3 coming to Miami during the same time. It was probably my 2nd and last time here. Only thing keeping me motivated to race here again is redemption:) It is a nicely run race with great volunteers though. Great 1st 1/2 to do IMHO if you live in Florida.

  • Comments: Overall, I was soooo impressed with the volunteers. I loved the aid stations - the jimmy buffett one was my fave... in the shade, with the island music playing on a radio. The race was very well organized! Everything was great! Loved the race!

  • Comments: I felt very confident with my training so I don't think there's anything else I could have done in terms of prep to perform better, aside from quitting my job and dedicating myself to training full-time. Ultimately I'm disappointed with my time since I fully expected to be in the 6 to 6:30 range. But for the crazy winds I think I would have hit my goal time. In the end I'm just happy to get this experience under my belt so I can train better for next year. As it turns out I won first for the Clyde 225+ category. The problem is I weighed less than 225 on race day so I stole first from the guy who should have really won the AG. Like I said I split before even looking at my time or waiting for the awards, so I didn't find out until much later that night. My buddy who won Clyde 200+ (where I should have competed) stayed for the ceremony and grabbed the award when they called my name. I've emailed the RD asking to be DQd and for the actual winner's contact info so I can send him his

  • Comments: Overall, it was all I hoped. Trained my butt off for over a year which started with a mile jog around the block. Bought my first real bike in 17 years in January and had 9 months to train on it. Swam 50 meters my first time in the pool a year ago so feel good about that progress too. With another year of training and better base, I look forward to next year's race and shaving some minutes off my time.
