I am shocked at the news of the Colorado theater shooting. I am from Colorado and have lots of family in that area. Brings back memories of Columbine too. It's hard to believe that someone can cause so much chaos and hate. It is sad for all those families that lost someone.

Hope this thread doesn't fly off into the "gun control" debate.

x2, x2.  Although the irony of these 2 topics both being on page 1 of COJ is not lost on me.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims and injured.

In a bizarre and sad coincidence, one of those victims was an aspiring sportscaster who narrowly avoided being shot in the Toronto Food Court massacre just six weeks ago. Her blog account of that incident and her lingering feelings of uneasiness are poignant, to say the least:

How horrible.

How horrible for everybody.

What can I say?

I can only pray for all those most affected.

That is so completely bizarre, and of course very sad. People suck. I just can't even comprehend 1st degree murder... let alone mass murder. People can be so incredibly beautiful, and so incredibly ugly. Dumbfounded. Thoughts and prayers to all involved.

The death penalty (when it's actually used in 20-30 years) is too kind for this sort of monster.  I'd like to see us bring back Braveheart style executions.

So horrible..

This makes me so sad.  I do think certain people should not be put on suicide watch and provided a gun in a safe cell in case they feel the need to end it.  Although this guy is probably sick enough not to.  He had plenty of chances already.

Horrible and upsetting news. Just sickens me.

I am ALL FOR the death penalty. And I did wish it on him. Instead though, I wish he were left to rot in a small cell, with no windows, for the rest of his life. Even better, put pictures up of the victims in his cell. So he can see the wonderful people he shot, daily.

No, that would make him happy. Serials tend to want reminded how much they changed people and how they played God doing it.

What you think of as a punishment doesn't work on most of the people in jail.

That's because we're too soft on criminals in jails.

Correct.  They would take trophies if they could many times.

What would REALLY kill him, is if somehow we could fool him into thinking no one cared and his act went unoticed...  But that's impossible.  They want attention, and if we could lock him up and make him think no one cared, it would torture him.

Can we hire you to kick his azz over and over and over, every day, for the rest of his life??
