Total Time = 1h 00m 2s
Overall Rank = 7/34
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 1/9
Pre-race routine:

Got my son set up with volunteers, picked up race packet, racked bike and organized transition area.
Event warmup:

Stretched before I left house, series of light jogging and more stretching, occasional sprints to get legs ready to move fast
Run
  • 14m 20s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Tried to take it out a little slower, but still jumped out too fast. Second mile a little better
What would you do differently?:

Pace that first mile better and be patinet
Transition 1
  • 00m 29s
Comments:

Starting to rain more steadily. OMG I'm a sissy in the rain.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe try to squeeze a few seconds off that time.
Bike
  • 29m 41s
  • 10 miles
  • 20.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Started drizzling on first loop, raining much harder by second loop. Shoes and socks were soaked. I tend to hesitate around corners anyway (I've been working on them) but today it was wet too. Had prescription sunglasses, so it was dark (cloudy, you know) and they were fogging up but I couldn't take them off or I REALLY wouldn't be able to see. Also had problems with the aerobottle. Hit a bump at the turnaround point and the yellow sponge popped out of the bottle. Every subsequent bump, of course, splashed my drink all over me! Nice and sticky.
What would you do differently?:

Just try to be braver on the corners
Transition 2
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

had a tough time re-racking my bike. Just too much in a rush and got it caught in the supports of the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Be more careful racking.
Run
  • 14m 59s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Glasses VERY fogged up. Passed someone early in the run who said "get that next girl Sharon". I couldn't even see who in front of me was female because I couldn't see!
What would you do differently?:

Worn contacts so I wouldn't need the glasses for that second run in the rain. Still need to train more. Run is still ~:20 per mile slower than this time last year.
Post race
Warm down:

Easy bike ride to the far end of the bike course to retrieve the yellow sponge from the aerobottle.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Rain.

Event comments:

Not a lot of women in this race. Overall (male & female) I was 64th of 188. Only 34 women.

I was totally thrilled about my bike pace. 20.2 is my fastest avg yet, and it was raining. Very psyched. Got LOTS of work to do on the run if I want to meet my goals this year.

GREAT JOB Sharon, I really wish i could have done this race. I woke up this morning a little sad that I didn't get to do it...but hopefully I'll be back at it soon. It was an awful day for anything outdoors- I guess you have to be prepared to race in all kinds of bad weather. Anyways, your time is really great! Maybe I'll see you at another race.

Another race well done, Sharon!!  You must have been ready to chuck those foggy glasses, though.  Imagine how fast your bike split would have been if it WASN'T raining!

#1 in your age group - that's fantastic!

Way to go - sounds like you raced really well despite the rain.  I can't even imagine running sub-7:30 minute miles, let alone wanting to cut time off of a race like this.  You rock

Great BIKE split, Sharon !!  You'll be hitting mid 21's by Spring I bet

Can't argue with a first in your AG either
