Pedal suggestions?

Extreme Veteran  535   Central New York |  Subject: Pedal suggestions?I just ordered my new it bike and it should be here by Wed. or Thurs. As soon as it comes I'm off the the LBS for a fitting and some pedals. My road bike has SPDs, but I thought this might be a good time to change to something else. Suggestions?? Experiences with different pedals? Thanks! |

I got some Look's for my new tri bike, on the suggestion of the tri shop guy who helped me (who also wins a bunch of local races, so very good source I think). The Keo pedals I bought where the least expensive choice and are VERY light and nice so far. I like the Look platform, it supports my foot better than the smaller SPD or a speedplay for instance. I'm still not very good at spinning the pedal around to clip-in, but I haven't put enough miles on the bike yet. |

Now if you are planning on changing both, than I prefer Speedplays over all other pedals (having used a lot of the different styles out there over the years). but again, all personal preference unless you have joint issues and then something with full float makes a lot more sense. |

Agreed ^^^ All I use is speedplay pedals. Very easy to clip in and out of; plus, the float is great. |

| Subject: RE: Pedal suggestions? I have Look Keos - cuz they were cheap and my roadie ex-boyfriend suggested them (also uses Looks). I like them just fine, actually - they were actually pretty easy to get used to since I was a total newb to cycling and clipless pedals in general, and compared to the SPDs (which I've used on spin bikes and hate), they are very easy to get in and out of. I've only wiped out 3 times due to not getting out of them correctly/fast enough, and I've gotten good at stopping on a dime and unclipping without falling. I know the Speedplays are double sided and everyone loves that, but I guess it's personal preference. I've heard good and less-than-good things about all the pedals. |

They give a good amount of float as well. ^^^x2 for feelin' the Quattro-love. They have all the benefits that Speedplay-lovers have for their pedals (double-sided, low stack, good cornering clearance) but Quattros don't clog up with grass/mud/sand/debris and are easy to run in shoes with their cleats installed, and also require no maintenance. I like having the tensioned-float feeling rather than Speedplay's float, which makes it feel too much like slipping around on ice.

I used the Speedplays for about a year and never really liked them with the complicated cleat set-up. I started using Ultegras about a year ago and really like them. Not exactly lightweight though. I wear a size 13 so I like having that large platform. |
