Pre-race routine:

Due to the sun coming out later this time around here, it's a relatively late start for a race. TA closed at 9:45 and race started at 10. Took my time to have breakfast, then drove to race site which is 1/2 hr away from home.

Comments:

Wind was strong. Road semi wet - rained last night but wind helped to dry up well. A lot of fallen leaves and debris. Big thanks for volunteers cleaning up the course early in the morning. but it's the Fall in New England and fallen foliage is normal.
Head wind at first stretch for 5 miles. Then quite a bit of turns. Somewhere between miles 8 and 9, my front wheel hit something, could be a rock or an acorn. Bike jumped, I lost balance. Next think I knew was I was leaning on my left, face and lips scratching on the road. I didn't wear gloves. Knuckles were burning from the scratches, so are my knees. I thought "sh!t!.
Bike shoes loosed, got propelled forward, then bike landed on my back. I sat up. Knuckles bleeding, one finger looks like good part of skin was gone. Face around the left eye hurts. I touch it and got a lot of blood on my hand. I was sitting with my back toward the road and a couple of racers past thinking I was ok. I turned around and asked the next racer to help. She was so nice to turn around back to the volunteers (we past a group shortly before I fell). Other racers, apparently saw my bloody face, freaked. 3-4 of them stopped and pulled out some t-shirts etc to help me stop bleeding on my hands and arms. A driver called 911. A volunteer came, called my bro.
What would you do differently?:

Not crash?

Event comments:

I was very aware of what happened, answered all question fine. Even remembere my bro's phone number on top of my head. Helmet cracked. EMT, neck guard, stretcher and ambulance ride to hospital.

CT scan (on head and neck) and X-ray (on hip) came out negative. Cleaned up wounds and was let go.
Cops brought my bike back to TA. One of the volunteers/Trifury members took it, and drove my car back to his place. After hospital, bro took me to collect my stuffs. These cowboys and cowgirls were STILL OWS'ing! Met them at the lake, and had pictures taken.

OUch!  What a story.   Glad you are OK now.  Think of it as a "French Peel" for your face and hands.
