As a motorcyclist myself, I am horrified at this other rider's behaviour. I hate when bad motorcyclists give other riders a bad rep. The following video was taken by my friend's colleague in Toronto as he commuted to work on his bicycle. He was cycling in the bike lane, and was passed by a motorcyclist on the RIGHT. ARGH.

If you ride a motorcycle, please don't be a jerk like this guy. It could have been really bad for a number of people.

Yeah, I guess I'm the old man that sticks to the rules.

It just bothers me as a cyclcist and motorcyclist to see fellow riders ignore rules of the road and make the rest of us look like jerks.

The "problem" with motorcyclists, is the thy are typically young riders and motorcycles have the allure of "extreme" or "risky".  So the young tend to like to treat it as an extreme sport, rather than a mode of transpertation.  Weaving, speeding, splitting lanes, and even wheelies are pretty common around here.

I was born and raised in Toronto. The riding culture is very different from the one here in VT. It's a lot of young guys on sportbikes who ride aggressively and show off. Then they give it up after a few years. I suppose there's nowhere really nice to ride in Toronto so they have to go with speeding through the city. Ugh.

I hope the original video capture has this person's license plate clearly shown. The cyclist did say he was going to file a police report, so I hope it gets somewhere.

LOL, gotta love the look on the face of the poor guy in the crosswalk. Who me?!?!

The Boise HIM involved a very steep windy hill at the beginning. I rode the course a few times before the race to get comfy with it. I was bombing down this hill at 50mph (speed limit is 45mph) in full aero in the middle of the lane due to the curves. At the bottom of the hill to a-holes on harleys split and buzz me on both sides at 65+mph. My hear rate was JACKED!!!

I have been riding motorcycles for 12+ years. Unfortunately there are jerks on every mode of transportation.

I got that too, but on that page is a link for recent posts.  The top one is labeled motorcycle a-hole, and it gets you to the video.  What a complete d-bag (the guy on the bike, not you).

Monica is a safe motorcycle rider and a safe cyclist. That's scary stuff right there. And I like how the motorcycle rider flips off the bicyclist at the end, like the bicyclist did something wrong. What a dbag. I'm sure the cops will be all over that case.

I'll play devil's advocate now.

The guy PROBABLY was just trying to get to where he was going and saw the space and figure he could get through and be on his way without causing a problem - not trying to intentionally be a jerk.

However, there is no excuse to not knowing the rules of the road or practicing safe riding/driving.  Passing on the right, even with room, is unsafe, probably illegal in this case, and scary to others.

There could have been confusion because it appears to be a bike lane the disappeared at the intersection.

The one thing I probably would do different is use profanity and yell after him.  Nothing good can happen.  The BEST result is what happened.  The guys rolls on and it's over.  The other?  It escalates.  I don't chose to make a scene over getting startled.

The motorcycle rider was completely wrong.  I think he is just a person that doesn't care about anyone but himself.

The comments were more than appropriate. Poor guy in the cross walk though had no clue as to what happened.

You're right, whoops, sorry! Definitely needed to warn people about language. I'll edit that in the post above.

The rider is a coworker of a friend of mine not named Monica.

I have shouted profanities in my head or in my car or in my helmet at others on the road, but I'd never be brave enough to shout at another person like that...maybe given a really extreme situation.

I did almost get hit by a truck at an intersection while on my bicycle once. We both stopped, I stopped first, he started going once I was well in the intersection. I yelled, but didn't cuss. He's the scary type that would have gotten out of the truck, I think. (Based on what he yelled at me!)
